I'm getting a mixed breed... AND IM PROUD!!

I drove 3 hours one way to get Scarlett from a rescue in another state. She was worth every mile. Rescues often have pure bred as well as mixed in their care. The vast majority are NOT dogs with special needs, but rather perfectly healthy dogs who had irresponsible owners who couldnt be bothered to train or spend time with the dogs. Some of the dogs are luckier and have come from homes that had true difficulties and surrendering the dog was the last thing they wanted to ever have to do. Of course it's going to be more difficult to adopt from one. That's kind of a no-brainer in my opinion. After all, they are in the business of making sure their dogs are going in to homes with proven track records and that the dog isnt going to get bounced from home to home again or dumped at the pound when the "cute" wears off. I would hope that the rescues would make things more difficult than the BYB's whose main concern is whether or not your check will clear.

Larger Black dogs are the least adopted and hardest to place. Awhile ago I wrote a thread about why rescue, or shelter dogs were not right for everyone. My reason for the thread was, that every dogs needs a loving forever home. Just because a 50 pound boxer mix is cute, doesn't mean it is the right dog for you and your family. Some posters thought I was putting down rescue, or shelter dogs. ME ? I was shocked. I was just saying why some people should not adopt a dog with issues they weren't able to handle. Anyway, I have no doubt you will provide a loving forever home for this new puppy.
On another recent thread one of the younger YT members was expressing concern about 'over breeding' and the many health problems pure bred dogs have, especially the ones bred with extreme features. When a look was the 1st goal and not health. I have seen GS breeders try to reverse this trend. And new breeds evolve like the Shiloh Shepherds, and Beiwer Terriers. The dog species is not locked into a certain number of breeds. When humans choose a mate for their animal and keep careful records and have the goal to breed a physically, mentally healthy dog that is is beautiful, can we automatically judge them as unethical ? Should only wealthy, professional show people, be allowed to legally breed dogs ? UM.... ?
Now Kendra, I could bla, bla, on and on, but really just wanted to say congratulations on the pup and I would like to see Mack's new brother.

Thank you for your reply. I really am sorry I began this thread. I never once thought that Yt members would be rude or mean for someone owning a mixed breed. Several people have commented that they haven't been treated badly here because they own one. That's not at all what I was implying. I knew no one would treat me unkindly for OWNING a mix, but I did know that where I am getting him from would be frowned upon. I could have lied or not said anything at all I suppose, but I wanted to be honest. I respect the members here a great deal. I love reading threads and looking at pics. I have learned so much since I joined. I do get the point.... I'm not missing it. But in the end, this decision has been made. I'm glad we will be able to give this little man a forever home. I am sorry that I have made several of you think less of me for where I am acquiring him. But, this too shall pass.... I will post pics of jaxon later in my albums If you would like to see him. Thank you to all for your opinions. You have really made me think. Now, I'm going to go find some happy threads to read... I could really use a smile.

You have got to be kidding me? You want me to "give away" a superior dog, to who? To be mated with whom? You can ruin a line that you have spent years developing, in about 5-7 yrs of indiscriminate breeding.

I think it's one thing to be open and honest and another thing to be 'in your face' with it.

I think the title of the post "I'm getting a mixed breed . . . AND I'M PROUD' was very 'in your face' when you must be quite familiar with the position of the vast majority of YT on mixed breeds regarding the need to adopt/rescue vs. purchase.

I think YT'ers have been very supportive of KendraE in the past. I'm sure that will not change.

I have seen some of the cutest little mixed breed puppies and I have seen some experimentation go wrong.

I can't advocate the purchase of a mixed breed but I can celebrate one that has arrived despite my initial feelings on the subject.

No one would have said much of anything if only a thread had been started celebrating the new pup. They would have all been supportive and shared her happiness. I am sure they will anyway. This was all SO unnecessary imho. Just get your new pup and tell everyone...all of the jargon about your wonderful breeder and how you don't care what anyone thinks is highly offensive. Hard for me to comprehend how she did not know people would react that way.

This has happened many times in the past. There was one thread in particular I remember that someone introduced their yorkie mix, and everyone was very welcoming. One member posted, something along the lines of "Cute mutt, did you get it from the pound?" and a lot of members called out that person saying she was rude. No one said anything about buying/adopting to that OP. This thread was just an in your face thread.

Kendra, people on here have been nothing but supportive of you... Especially when it came to Mack (the results of uneducated breeding). You also have your little girl, and no one has had anything negative to say about her. I actually remember commenting on a thread you posted with all three of your dogs about how adorable they all were.

I think you definitely meant this thread to be in your face to the people who do not believe in breeding mixes. It makes me really sad to see how you are treating the people on this forum when they have done nothing but be supportive
