| New to the group Hello everyone! I am Christina mommy to Bentley he's 1 1/2 year old. I'm new to the group but thought it would be very helpful since raising a Yorkie is harder than I thought lol I never imagined it being this hard, hes very needy and always scratches my at my leg to be held...is this normal for yorkies? I am also having trouble with him marking everything, not only at our house but everywhere we go grrrrr its getting out of hand but we dont want to have him fixed quite yet. Any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Christina |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Welcome! So glad you found YT! My Marcel just loves to be held too, he just gets super still and could be there all day...I really love it. Most yorkies are a little high maintenance...they just have so much personality and love to play. On the marking...how old is he? I waited until about 10mths to neuter both my males -- it def helped, but I did have to do some re-training after the neuters, to help them how to do it correctly again.

| Hello! Welcome to YT Yes, most yorkies are very much people pups. Mine follows me everywhere and likes being near me whenever I'm home...my lil shadow. I'd get him neutered if marking is a problem. Is there a medical reason you haven't had him neutered already? Have you tried using belly bands in the meantime?

| I've been using the belly bands and he wont pee in it during the day but once we go to bed and during the night he wakes me up after he's wet in his belly band ugh We will probably get him fixed soon, was going to breed him once but this marking is getting out of hand and needs handled soon.

| Welcome aboard. Unless he comes from Grand Champions, get him neutered. That will help. Best of luck. |

| First of all welcome to Yorkie Talk!! You will find tons of useful information on here!! Second I would just go ahead and get him fixed. Breeding is more then sticking the two dogs together. I have seen more then I like of people having problems with the female when she's whelping, and sometimes even losing her is the case which is very sad. So look around at all the breeding boards before you even think about it please. But other then that again...welcome to YT!

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | Welcome lots of great info here. Look into the belly bands as you continue to train. They work great. But can not be left on 24/7 but can be a great tool when you can't be watching him.

| Welcome to the board,,,I hope your boy gets it all worked out..my daughter is going through the same thing with her Maltese, he marks everything..I told her it may help if he was neutered...We had Yoshi neutered at 5 months and will mark rarely, i can't imagine how bad he would have been if we hadn't had it done..He is a 12 lb. pekingese and still trying to figure out our new baby Prissy, which is a Yorkie. |

| I have two males. Rubin is neutered and 8 years old. He 100% potty trained. But If I go away from home, he still will pee on my bed quilt, if I leave the door to my bedroom open. This is deliberate marking. So I close the door. The only other time he marks is if a female in heat pees in the house, or another male pees in the house, this is what I refer to as top dog marking. (I have foster doggies in and out) Abba is pee-pad and outside potty trained he does not mark he is 9 months old and is not neutered. I agree With other posters retrain, and use belly bands. Check out all the potty training threads here on YT.
