				 | My Bichon puppy was shipped to me (from California to Washington). He was almost three months old and was sent on an airline that the breeder approved of. (She said there is a difference in the way different airlines handle pets.) We also waited an extra week to get a straight-through flight with no stops. If necessary, I would have been willing to drive to another airport a hundred miles or more away to get a straight-through flight. She said her puppies (Bichons) were usually tail wagging, happy little pups when they were picked up at an airport. My puppy came in a new large crate with a blanket, toy, water, and food. He had a vet's certificate saying that he was healthy and could handle a colder temperature for "X" number of hours. But unlike most Bichons - mine is somewhat shy and fearful. When I picked him up at the airport, he was very frightened and shaking. So - he didn't like his plane ride at all, and it was also the first time he had ever been away from his mother and litter mates. We got the little guy home and he was, indeed, a friendly, playful, happy little pup. He was none the worse for the plane ride, but he definitely did not enjoy it and was very happy to get back into the arms of a loving person. I think breeders should do their best to sell their puppies locally or to people who can pick them up. However, this is sometimes difficult to do, and with the Internet -- people further away, are often willing and begging to get a puppy and give it a wonderful, loving home. I am not against shipping, but it should be a last resort, and should be done with care. Carol Jean |

There is a thread or two on here discussing Puppy Escrows in more detail or you can do an internet search to find a company who does it. | |

No one have to make excuses especially to someone they don't know. Search this site, you will find that there are many threads about people sending money, not receiving their puppy, or receiving a sick one...You aren't the only person on this site with knowledge of these thing's. No one here is dumb..

				 | I have to admit a certain bias to this question. In my opinion, there seems to be enough within driving distance breeders to enable a person who just wants a great pet to find one. However, after being on this site I have come to appreciate that there are needs and honestly, there is more than one breeder here that live across the US from me that I know I would get a terrific puppy from, so I would have to fly to get my puppy and fly back with her. That's a whole different set of circumstances to just the I'll ship anywhere without question group. People who truly care about any pet will either ensure a safe delivery or like me, would go get their pet. |

				 | I'm sure this was a scam. An ad on the Internet said that someone was willing to give away a free Yorkie. All you had to do to get it was send them the money for the shipping expenses. Sure!!!!!!! Carol Jean |

				 | I wouldn't. I need to see up close what I'm paying for. I think it's too much stress on the poor puppy. There are some on here who have had very good experiences with shipping. But I would never do it.

				 | I shipped my puppy. I paid extra so that he went in the cabin of the plane. He got laid over and spent the night with a stewardess. He was happy and healthy when he reached me the next day. He also was escorted out at the ticket counter because they wanted to pet him outside the crate. I have no problems with it when they are shipped like that. My tinier puppy I drove to pick up, by the time I got her home she had been in a car travelling for over 26 hrs!! If she had less of a constitution then I think that could have been a tougher way to go. HOWEVER I would not consider shipping a tiny to be an option as they can go down so fast when stressed. To make blanket statements about people not caring about the welfare of a pup has no place here, I loved my puppy sight unseen but shipping was the only way to go for us. If you use common sense and buy from a respectable breeder I do not think it is such a worry, they care about their babies too!!! Last edited by diva pup; 11-27-2005 at 04:57 AM. |

				 | Well I think if the poster didn't want any opinions other than her own she should not have posted this in the first place! And to ask people whats wrong with them just for stating their opinion??? You ask me the original poster here is the one with the problem. |
