| Jackson was not an "only" dog until he was 10 months old when my moms dog (living with us) died. We would split our time between my dads and moms house and both had other dogs. But our "main" house is at moms. After she died, he was really lonely for a while. He always seemed so bored and sad. But I think he adjusted well. However, I do get him to the dog park once a week or more, he also sees the dogs that I dogsit almost every day, plus I take him to my dads house two nights a week where he gets to spend the day/night w/ Lilly and Buddy. So basically I tell myself not to feel too guilty -- he lives an amazing life and is spoiled rotten! But I do want to get another soon when I begin working more so he will have a permanent buddy.

| Callie is an only dog and always has been she is 4. I have always taken her to dog parks and dog events so she loves other dogs and my mom a year ago rescued Sammy a yorkie about the same size as Callie and she gets to see him at least once a week and she loves it. But when it comes to the end of the night she wants to be the only one sleeping in my room and getting my attention. I would be worried that if Rosie was with other dogs her whole life that she might be lonely.

| Harley is an only doggie, but has been since he was brought home. I have however had experience taking a horse to my house without any other horses present. My first horse Tex, spent much of his early life in herds and rather neglected in fields. He spent a month at my coach's place until my barn was built. He spent about 3 days in his new home, at the corner of his field staring down the road whinnying for friends. He was alone for 6 months before horse #2 arrived, and he coped since he realized that I would be there any waking moment I wasn't in school. He even started wait for me at the corner of his field for me to get off the bus. He never whinnyed again until another horse came on the property. So that being said, I would try to find ways for your baby to have friends when you're not around. If you're working see if you can find a friend with a single dog who could watch yours, and then offer to take theirs when they're not around. You can also look into doggie daycare options Glad you get your baby back, quarantine issues suck.

| I got Cricket at a young age, and she was an only dog and liked it that way. I got Gidget at 18 months, and she was raised w other dogs. My husband and I do think she misses the other dogs at times to play with.

| Andy has always been the only furbaby sinse I got him. He is three now and doesn't know it to be any different in the house. Now when we go for walks he has play mates and friends that we go with. Maybe you can find some people that with dogs that your babe can make friends with.

It'll be in your own home, for agreed hours, to fit in with you and suit your life style. Ok you'll earn some money (not much!) but that's not the point. It'll give your little girl a selection of dogs to play with and if she doesn't get on with one of them, you don't have to have them back.I know it's a different area of the UK, but I found Harry's occasional pet sitter on Gumtree! He's brilliant, registered and insured (one dog at a time, looks after police dogs etc.) - it could be worth an ad from you? Fostering in the UK is almost more involved than fostering a baby!!! Oh, I bet you can't wait!! Sally + Harry x | |
