| Hello - question Hello everyone ~ I will be getting a Yorkie very soon. In looking @ Yorkies on the 'net, I kept running into "parti" Yorkies and "Biewer" Yorkies.....what in the world are they? They are not recognized by AKC, are they? I thought all Yorkies were supposed to start out black and tan, and then turn blue-gray and tan.... I've read the AKC breed standard for Yorkies, and it doesn't mention these other "types." |

YT 1000 Club Member | Greetings LBelle, let me be the first to welcome you to YorkieTalk There are several Users here, who have the Parti and Biewer, and I'm sure that they will respond to your question, however... I would suggest that you use extreme caution when attempting to purchase any animal via the Internet ! We hear or SO many problems which arise from this method of purchase. Have you attempted to contact a Yorkie Breeder in your community ?

| Congratulations and Cautions Hi LBelle, welcome to the BEST place on earth to learn all about Yorkies and their unique traits and personalities. The members on here are wonderful and will willingly share their knowledge and support. You've come to the right place to become educated and ready to be the BEST parent possible for your new little family member. Please, please, please be cautious about purchasing a puppy online or from a backyard breeder. This breed can carry many serious genetic issues if they are not bred responsibly. You'll pay less up front but $$$$$$$$ in heartbreak and vet bills if you have one that is not well bred. Don't take a chance There are many AKC breeders that will share a healthy puppy with you and believe me it's worth the time and effort to research your breeder carefully. Bella is my first dog EVER and she is the joy of our lives. She is 4 lbs. of happiness and adds so much joy to each and every day. I can't imagine life without her. We rehomed her and luckily the original owner took the time to be sure she was from a reputable breeder. We never realized what a chance we were taking when we rehomed her with no regard to her parentage. We were fortunate. Anyway, good luck in your search. The more time you take, the more happiness and joy you'll have when you find the right puppy for you! Keep us posted and remember we love pictures! |

| Hi LBelle - welcome to Yorkie Talk. There are several opinions on this topic. I'm sure you can do a search here and read the threads about it. Sometimes they do get a little "heated". In a nutshell..... yes Parti Yorkies are a tri-colored Yorkie that IS recognized by the AKC - they are a disqualification in the AKC show ring so they can't be shown there but can be registered with AKC (like White Boxers or White German Shepards). Biewers originated in Germany and according to who you talk with are tri-colored Yorkies or a new breed that used Yorkie in it's make up. They are NOT recognized by the AKC. If you are really interested I can send you more information about the Parti Yorkies. As with any puppy you do have to be careful of who you deal with when adopting a Parti, a Biewer, or a traditional colored Yorkie. There are lots of good reputable breeders on Yorkie Talk and on the internet but you must check references and be careful to avoid scams. Good luck, Teresa |
