Hi LBelle - welcome to Yorkie Talk. There are several opinions on this topic. I'm sure you can do a search here and read the threads about it. Sometimes they do get a little "heated".
In a nutshell..... yes Parti Yorkies are a tri-colored Yorkie that IS recognized by the AKC - they are a disqualification in the AKC show ring so they can't be shown there but can be registered with AKC (like White Boxers or White German Shepards). Biewers originated in Germany and according to who you talk with are tri-colored Yorkies or a new breed that used Yorkie in it's make up. They are NOT recognized by the AKC. If you are really interested I can send you more information about the Parti Yorkies.
As with any puppy you do have to be careful of who you deal with when adopting a Parti, a Biewer, or a traditional colored Yorkie. There are lots of good reputable breeders on Yorkie Talk and on the internet but you must check references and be careful to avoid scams.
Good luck,
Teresa
