| First Time Breeding. Advice And Help Needed Hello there, I have decided to plan on breeding my beautiful girl Tilly on her next heat. She is from one of the best lines of Yorkshire terriers and is of show quality. Firstly I am not wanting to breed for finical gain, I simply would like to add to my family and also hopefully produce a lovely boy for show. As this would be my first time there are alot of things I do not know. I have read two books that include big chapters about breeding, but still feel not 100% about how everything happens. I would really appreciate any help and advice anyone could pass my way. My concerns are as follows. 1. The day when the dam should be bred. ( what if I do not notice her being on heat for a few days?) 2. Best foods for pregnant dams? Inc calcium and vitamins ? 3. Birthing stage, I asked the breeder of my dam if there was a history of any of his dams from this line of any birthing problems I.e c sections that were needed. He said he never had any problem with this line. Only with a past different line. Is there anything I could do with my vet to check if she is a good candidate for producing? 4. As a first time breeder should I let my dam give birth at home with just me or should I get a vet to come to the house? 5. What things will I need? |

| To answer #5 what you need is a good vet to get her spayed, there are too many dogs at shelters that are unwanted, no need to bring more puppies in this world. Also if you have to ask how to breed, what to do, how to do it- you probably aren't a well respected breeder and shouldnt be doing it in the first place.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Here are a few sites that may be helpful to you and your Dam. There is so much information out there, and a lot of preparation for both you, your household and your Dam. Make sure you do your research, no question is a stupid questin and as you can see, be repared for the worse. There are a lot of people here who take their causes very serious and will not hesitate to leave rude comments to get their point across. Those are the members who you just need to try not to comment back to or all hell breaks loose. Then the war of the comments begins. I've seen it too many times. Just ask your questions and let the rest go... Best of luck to you. Have you done her heatlh checks does she herself pass all of them. I suggest the book the ABC of breeding it a great book and well worth the read.. I think that is what it is called have it to read in my pile. If you want I can go find it and make sure of the title. So you know I have in my hands a 19 week old silkie terrier pup girl that is full sister silkie terrier nationals winner. wesmister breed winner, her own father took silkie terrier nationals stud dog big sister took select female.... my goal show and maybe breed her if she her self makes standard. But if I do not ch's her then she will get spayed. She has to pack her own load on this one. When I do if I do I will be scared to and it not my first litter. Sorry you answered some of my Questions before I could get this posted. JL

Instead of breeding why don't you go to the shelter and adopt a dog who doesn't have a family.

Now if we discourage everyone out there to never show or learn to breed then where will our loved bred come form as the old timers stop breeding. should there not be others wanting to learn and breed coming behind them. Better suggestion maybe find a mentor or ask for help from your pups breeder to get started. Or if you are just looking to get another show dog and maybe not breed at all which is the routie I personally my self rather go then to start breeding go find another breeder to sell you another show dog. | I, personally, have never understood this response. WHY is it anyone's duty to pick up the slack on other people's failed responsibilities and get a dog (most often a mutt) from the pound, instead of the purebred puppy they want?
