That scary. People will do anything for a dollar. I'm glad mine do not like it ourside. Its really funny, they will go out for just a minute or two and then they want back in. Its either too hot or too cold for them. lol!!!!

I just saw an AKC rep on a cable news network speaking about the rise in dog thefts in this country. She said not to leave pets in cars ( I hope everyone knew that one), not to leave them tied outside a store and not to leave unattended in your yard. She also mentioned that dogs, especially small dogs, are being taken during home invasions. They will take your TV and other electronic devices, money, and you dog! What a world we live in!
Apparently AKC is on a mission with this message as this is not the first I have heard them speaking about this.

Looks like two were just stolen not far from here. Last year there was a big increase in thefts in a small area. Several Yorkies were the target.

Accidents happen. Dogs get loose. Home invasions are pretty unpreventable. But I just do not understand why people still let their dogs outside alone (or leave them in a car). WHY risk it? It takes less than 3 minutes to steal a dog from a car. Why not just sit outside with your pup? There is so much risk even doing everything right. I see zero reason to push it. I know some people think they live in "safe" areas/country areas/low crime areas. IMO, that is no reason to not go out with the dog.

Tibbe has gotten that way the past 2 weeks - he's usually ready to come right inside after his business is done. At night, when it is cooler, he does linger outside and then comes in the house and gets the zoomies at bedtime. But I usually precede him outside now and look around and then ask him to come out and then stand watch until he is back inside, moreso now that I have read the ABC news article. A 50% increase is staggering!!!

Yeah, I don't think there is a safe area anymore. These thieves come into quiet areas for the very reason that it is easier to steal people's stuff there. They count on people feeling "safe" and not expecting them.

I was just talking about this with the women I work with in the lunchroom. One of the ladies had some money and jewelry stolen from her house by one of her sons friends. I was saying they can take all of my jewelry, and anything else but leave my dogs and family alone. They were shocked that I would worry about someone stealing my dogs. I told them about this article and how many others I have read. I used to have pictures of my dogs on the board in front of my register at school, the kids loved it. I no longer advertise my babies because we have so many people coming in the lunchroom and so many of them know where I live (across from the school) so I am not interested in anyone having ideas of stealing my dogs. We have a security alarm but if the dogs bark loud enough it will set it off, but people don't know this. worry about them every time I leave the house and know they are alone. Only one of my dogs is chipped, deciding about the other 3 because if someone steals your dog they are not going to take it and have it checked, they will sale the dog and the person buying the dog probably won't care either.

Even if stolen and your dog gets out of the house or yard of the thief and AC picks it up, they would scan it. And under some circumstances, should you somehow know who has your dog, that chip could prove you its owner and not the one who has possession of it. And perhaps the thief has to take the dog into the vet and is for some reason scanned(maybe they are acting strange and the vet gets suspicious, maybe they are just checking to see if they are "responsible owners" and scanning to see if chipped - whatever - could happen), your name could pop up. I chipped Tibbe in case he got lost some way but even if stolen, it could increase my chance of getting him back more than if he didn't have a chip, I think, even if only a 1% chance, I'll take it.
