I know that there isn't such a thing as a teacup. I was just trying to differentiate between the sizes to let y'all get a better idea of how small he is. His mom is 3.5 and his daddy is 3 lbs

daycares don't usually accept dogs until they have had all rounds of their shots and have been fixed. until he's about 4-6 months old he probably can't go. if they do accept him he could get really sick from the stuff floating around doggie daycares i'd avoid that honestly.

you can try a dog sitter that comes over several times a day to play with, train, feed, walk, ext.

The thing about small towns is that there aren't a lot of services like a sitter...all my neighbors either work or are older and can't get around anyways

the small town thing...i know that one. check care.com just in case someone is listed as a pet sitter on there. talk to the local kids about an after school job to help out with one let out a day at least or maybe two?

you can check with the local vets about setting up a private kennel away from the other dogs to keep him during the day for his own private dog daycare. we did that for a few new pups that needed some loving and outside time.

I agree w/ everyone else that 11hrs is far too long. I think you've gotten great advice. Either a dog walker is necessary, daycare, or pee-pad training with an ex-pen.

I don't think it's wrong to expect a fully potty trained dog, either, though. To me, it's not really acceptable to have an adult dog constantly having accidents in the house, unless there's a medical issue. I do believe it's possible, with a little work, patience and diligence, to have a fully potty trained adult dog.

An ex pen is better so that he will feel more in the home, rather than locked away in a cold bathroom. Plus as another member stated, he can and will chew on mouldings or cabinets bc he is teething.

OMG, mom was only 3.5 lbs? That's way too small for breeding. Bitches should be almost twice that size. How often is the dam bred?

You might be surprised that some of the older couples might be willing to come over and let your puppy out and play with him.

Some older, retired couples don't really want the responsibility of a dog anymore - but still enjoy being around them sometimes.

Also - maybe a teen-ager?

Daycare sounds like a great option when your puppy is a little older. 11 hours is a long time; I worked long hours too with my little maltese - but on those jobs when I could not come home for lunch - I found a neighbor or local teen-ager that needed a little extra money to come in mid-day or after school (around 230 3:00)

You sound like you are willing to give different things a try; I hope you are able to work it out.

Caution
If you put your pup in the bathroom, make sure the toilet seat is down. Pups have drowned in toilets.

I have the same kind of schedule as you. Furgie would pee and poop in her crate 75% of the time, after only just an hour of being home alone...made me feel awful!!! She uses pee pads and goes outside as well. She recently turned one and is not 100% trained yet, close though. When I go anywhere I just close the doors to the bedrooms, I find she does much better than being in the crate. As for when I go to work, she goes to doggy day care...she is socialized, feed, pottied and happy! Definitely beats coming home to a mad pup from being left alone all day and poop and pee! Good luck!

Welcome to YT!! I know sometimes the humane society is a good place to look for a dog watcher. We live in a small town also and don't have too many options for day care. I'm lucky enough to be able to stay at home and both yorkies are trained to go just outside. It's hard in the beginning but if the time is put in early for training then I'm sure you'll have your pup trained soon. Even four hours is much too long but hopefully you can find someone to take care of your pup while you're at work. Maybe you could find an older person with a fenced in yard, as long as they supervise your pup, and he could stay in their home during working hours - kind of a surrogate parent thing. Good luck!

He definitely needs more space than a crate for long hours like that. An ex-pen with pee-pads, his bed in the crate w/door open, plus food and water available.

Their bladders are so small, and 12 weeks is even pretty early to crate train, unless you can take him out often.

Since he can't hold it that long, he's going to eliminate in his crate even though he doesn't want to.... and eventually he'll get used to being soiled.

My pups at that age had to pee almost every hour. Pad training in a pen was good, but also I'm home full time.

Poppy is puppypad trained and is free to roam around my kicthen and livingroom. She was never creat trained i left her and trusted her in my kicthen with her toys bed and puppy pad along with water and food at the other side of the room. She always did really well and never ate anything... because she had her toys to play with ... and the cat haha!! Now Poppy is a year old and i still would not expect her to hold herself while i am working a 8 hour day. I hope u find day care for Tank as 11 hours being on his own is a very long time Good luck <3 xxx

I agree that your puppy is too young to be fully housebroken. Puppies have small bladders and practically no ability to wait. If you are with them you can take them out or put them on a pee pad, when you see them looking for a place to go. We are learning to read their signals and they are learning where we want them to go. In my opinion it would be easier for you to pee pad train your dog. To begin with YOU must put the puppy on the pee pad. They haven't got a clue that we want them to pee there until we show them over and over. OUTSIDE training: When I am training puppies I always take them on a leash outside to a pre appointed place. Where I have a soiled pee pad. I do this until they are fully pee pad trained. I praise and treat when ever they go on the pee pad. Then I let them off the leash to run around a little. This teaches them out side means pottie first, then play. If you just take them out they will hold off going as long as they can, because they think going pottie means going back in. When you take them on a leash give the go pottie (get busy or what ever you say) then if they don't go after a few min.s bring them back in. I prefer using a play pen, exercise pen or much larger crate when pee pad training, rather then blocking them in a small room. Closing them in a room is very lonely and usually they can not see out of the windows. Also they begin to hate that room because they know that means you are leaving. But a play pen, can be in your busy room, you can even move it from one room to another. You can use the pen when you are home too. The small crate you described is fine for sleeping. If your play pen is large enough you can use the crate inside that. This post is getting so long. I am sorry, but I really want to help. If you would like more information about how to make their crate their little safe place just let me know.
