Welcome!!! You are going to really love this place. There is so much terrific information on just about everything related to Yorkies and more ![]() When I brought Chloe home we kept her on Royal Canin the same as our breeder. I also gave Chloe Nutri-Cal. It isn't vital to give them suppliments I just preferred to add a little extra into her diet and she loved the stuff ![]() Congrats on your little one! I have always had dogs but Chloe is my first Yorkie and I have never had this strong of a bond with any other pup. They are such wonderful little dogs. I hope to see some pics of the little cutie soon. Tina

Our breeder said the same thing that Nancy1999's said - free feeding in the beginning to ensure no issues with hypoglycemia - and it worked for us. Conggratulations!

Welcome. You have come to a good place to read various opinions on Yorkie health, behavior, diet and care. On the health and diet forum you can read a wealth of opinion on dog foods. Many people are moving more toward feeding their pets a natural form of dog food. Many of the grocery stores and department stores carry nationally known foods that contain a lot of grain and little real meat for your dog. I would suggest reading as much as you can about the dog foods, their ingredients and what a dog's diet actually should be. Then make a decision on what is best for your pet. Read the labels. Just because a label says it is natural or healthy does not mean it actually contains good healthy ingredients. You need to be able to recognize the ingredient list as being really healthy and natural. I will tell you one thing; corn is not a natural food for a dog's diet! Best wishes to you and your new family member. Hope to see your pictures soon.

As a breeder I do recommend to families to keep Nutri-Cal on hand. However, I prefer Nutri Drops as it absorbs quicker in the event of a hyperglycemic attack. Food, plenty of rest, minimal handling and of course a stress free environment keep the possibility of an attack to a minimum.
