| I went to a charity auction once where one of the items was a Golden Retriever pup. The bid went over $22K, then the winner ceded the dog to the next highest bidder but still donated the amount of his bid anyway. So the charity got the winning bid and the next highest bid for a total of over $43K. The breeder was a veterinarian and also a benefactor of the charity, and the dog came with neuter, all vet care, and grooming for life (so that she could keep track of the dog for it's entire life).

| Prior to the start of the auction, Sharon, a noted dog lover, spotted the 8-week-old rescue puppy and told PEOPLE, "That puppy is divine!"

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I am glad that the charity raised money. But here in Can as CKC breeders we are forbidden to place donate. Our pups for raffles and like fundraisers

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I know it's frowned upoin to donate for "prizes", but I'm wondering since they are bidding on it it might be allowed. I still think it's wrong, and I doubt if a reputable breeder would do it because she has no control on where it goes.

| I guess I'm not exactly sure what the concern is? If someone can pay $10,000 to buy a puppy, they can afford trainers, expensive vet emergencies, a dog sitter, a dog walker, etc the possibilities are endless. It's not as if the dogs are being auctioned off for $2.00. The starting bid was $5,000. If dogs were being auctioned off for pennies, then I'd understand.
