I agree with your line of reasoning. Sooooo many people get a dog and don't understand the very high costs of having one. My boss was spending over $1000 a month on his two old dogs (both recently passed), with vet, medications, kennel costs, etc. Then the people who barely scraped enough month together to get a pup end up putting it down as soon as it gets sick because it's cheaper, or they rehome it when they realize it actually costs money. Very sad.
