As a person who carries my dogs in a purse, I feel that this was a very condescending comment. I hope you take time to think about how you sound and that you really put down a lot of people with your comment. I do not think I look 'cool' or 'rich' with my dogs. They are part of my family, and get to go with me a lot of places. I am sorry if you do not feel the same way about your dogs, but you do not see me talking down to you.

Exactly! I find it interesting that some people assume that everyone wants children. I understand that most women have the innate desire to be a mother, but not everyone has this. I often feel bad for people who DO have kids!

Let me tell you, I found the room in my heart for my second!!! I joke that my daughter's are like night and day, and they are, in looks and in personality. Children will teach you many things, help you grow in many ways, help you down your life's path in different ways. It is not all about what you teach them, but what they teach you.........about the world, about yourself, about relationships. While my first helped me learn responsibility, undying love, patience, and courage, my second helped me learn acceptance, unconditional love, hope, humility and humanity. Children are a gift and we should cherish them every day! My oldest sister decided young not to have children..........she was very happy with that decision for many years. As she reached the end of her child-bearing years I think she started to regret it.............too late to take that decision back, she adopted a pug........The girl who used to make fun of me for treating my yorkies like babies, now treats her TWO pugs like babies even more-so than me. They are her "children" and I even got her a Mother's Day card this year. When she asked why I said, "Well you are Chico and Maddie's mama aren't you?" Made her very happy.Whether by choice, "mistake", or design, some people do not have children........if they so choose to place all that love into an animal.......I see it as just another gift. True Gifts in this world are varied, for some it is children, for some it is animals, and for some, it is BOTH!

| Some people don't want kinds and think that having them would ruin their lives! It's not filling a void to have animals, it's just part of a natural existence for some to have them. I also don't really care when I see people carrying dogs in bags or in strollers. I usually just smile to myself thinking how wonderful it is to see someone who has incorporated their little dog(s) into their day.

I think it's understandable to get carried away. I also think it can feel cathartic to express your feelings, even if/when we go too far. That said, it's hard to reconcile that you "don't care" about the feelings and opinions that may be different from yours. So many members have been so kind to you here, so that kind of stings. I realize there have been difficult threads for you (and all of us) in the past, but there has also been so much support. Anyway, please don't take what I said the wrong way...but I too need to say what I feel at times, and I do care for you.

| I just saw that on yahoo and it made me think of this thread! LOL That restaurant is only banning kids under 6, but I've seen plenty of children OVER the age of 6 having total cows in public. Like the kid at Ross I mentioned some 50 or so odd pages ago on this thread. I think he was about 8 or 9. While the idea of dining in an upscale, quiet restaurant with no kids under 6 seem nice, there can still be older kids or teens even who act inappropriately at times. Where's the cut off point? I think parents in general need to be able to control their kids.
