| ![]() You might say something like, ' I feel like you are criticizing me for having more than one pet.' Now it up to them to explain. I go to a Vet who is a wonderful doctor but, she really seems to save any tenderness for the animals, she is professional, blunt and to the point with people. Her Vet Tecs and office staff are wonderful and adore her. So I think she keeps a wall up to protect a tender heart. |

| ![]() The comment "If I had six kids would it be anybodies business" the answer is NO it is noones business. I DO have six kids and as they were growing up I got very tired of the constant comments. As for the vet office, there is one lady at my vets office that has a heart of stone. The only thing going on in the world is what is going on in her life, she does have alot of stuff going on. I try to not speak to her beyond being polite. The vet that I use is a very sweet man that teared up when he had to put one of my babies to sleep. I think if the vet is not giving you grief,I would very politely discuss the staffs attitude with the vet. I did have to do this with a family Dr once over his staff at the front. I told him that some of his staff needed to sharpen their people skills, especially sense they were dealing with people who were ill and moms that were upset over a child. If you are polite and try not to be upset while speaking to the vet, there is nothing wrong with discussing these conserns. |

| ![]() I would definitely mention your dissatisfaction with the office staff to the vet and say you're going to leave because of it. If the vet cares about his patients, he will see that the office staff change their attitudes. I have a really wonderful vet, four of them actually, at the same practice. The office staff are all great and it's obvious they care about the animals. Last year when my Bichon girl, Lacy, got sick, they were all very attentive and supportive. My vet loved Lacy and had taken care of her all her life. She was very gentle and caring and we did everything we could for Lacy. My vet came to my house to put Lacy to sleep so she (and I) would be more relaxed. Lacy was very traumatized at the vet's office. She took good care of my boy Bichon, Cosmo, when he had a bad time after Lacy left and recommended that I get another dog so Cosmo would have a buddy. That's how my sweet little Lavender Chihuahua came to live with us. When my little albino ferret, Cali Rose, got sick, the vet who specializes in little furkids took her home with him several nights so she would get care around the clock. She was very small and got very sick very quickly. He consulted with the vets at the University of Tennessee about her. I finally lost her, but I feel like the vet did everything he possibly could for her. My vet is as important to me as my own doctor and if I couldn't trust her and the other vets at the practice, I would change vets. I count all of them as friends and appreciate their caring and the great care they give my furkids (and me, too). Vets need to be good at dealing with people just like human doctors. Dr. Kris put her arms around me and cried with me the day Lacy had to be put to sleep. Her compassion was much appreciated. Jeanette |

YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() I dont get it from my vets because they know how well my animals are cared for but I get that same reponse from family, friends and even my husband. My hubby at one time called me a hoarder and I had all I could to but smack him. My animals are clean, groomed, fed high quality food, loved on and spoiled.. and my house is immaculate.. I vaccuum and mop my floors several times a day because even though I LOVE my animals I dont like the mess and the hair..lol.. Im far from being a hoarder... I wouldnt let it bother you anymore because you know how well you care for your furbabies and its not really anyone else's business how many animals you own! (unless of course they are being neglected but in your case they arent!)

| ![]() Interesting, I agree with the one comment that they wouldn't have their jbos if you didn't have pets. Or even, "Hey, instead of another pet think of him/her as job security." What I have discovered when working with people is that many times people give off the preception of being total jerks but honestly, I think they're just trying to be funny or start conversation (dry humor). I usually call it (forgive the lack of political correctness) social retardation. Many people, especially in those types of jobs where they're interacting with pets as opposed to people usually wouldn't be cantidates for Ms. Congeniality (I know there are vet techs on this site as well as vets and please don't assume that I'm grouping all of you into a sterotype). My vet brother can't stand. He thinks she's blunt and rude and not personalbe. I, however love her and can handle her bluntness and many times shoot it right back to her. In the end, all that matters to me is that she takes really good care of Gizzy and took care of Cammie when she passed. I would though address it to your vet. Say it like "Hey look, I don't know if you mean it or not, but this is how it's coming off to me. And frankly I'm a little offended.." See where it goes from there.

| ![]() You might want to shop for a new veterinarian on yelp or a similar website. Sounds like they are not the best fit. Or, if you don't want to do that quite yet, maybe mention it to the doctor. If it changes, great. If it doesn't, you know you need a new veterinarian! I just fired my canine ophthalmologist of TWELVE years. They couldn't get my girl in for an emergency and the place I got referred to instead turned out to be wonderful folks who were down to earth and nonjudgmental - unlike the guy I've been seeing. I'm so sorry I put myself and my dogs through 12 years of him.
