| Does This Make Me An Evil Yorkie Mom? As I've posted before I live in an apt. complex, people come & go and due to some previously very loud neighbors Princess is not at all desensitized anymore. The neighbors are quieter across the hall, but others still come & go and of course I can't/don't expect library quietness. I've been trying to reinforce Princess being quiet & using the "No Barking" command to quiet her down and it really works a lot if I'm in the same room with her. She'll look at me to see how she should react I guess & I'll tell her "No Barking", etc. However, if I'm not right there she takes off for the door in a frenzy. So here's where the potential evil may step in. I got the vacuum out a few days ago & just left it in the dining room hoping to get her used to it (not running), using treats, praising the vacuum, playing by it but as soon as I'd touch it she'd run for my bed. She's afraid of anything motorized, even the electric hand mixer. So, the may have kicked in, though I thought I was just using her fear to my advantage. I put the vacuum a few feet in front of the door. Now she'll take off running to the door barking like a maniac, see it, then turn & go back to what she was doing. I have never tormented her with the vacuum, just so that is clear, and I hope this doesn't constitute as that now. My thought was I could have one of two positive results, maybe both. She would just teach herself eventually to stop running to the door barking. And the extra exposure may also get her used to the vacuum as it's usually behind closed doors. Am I an evil mommy?

| .....Oh my goodness, I couldn't help myself but I started laughing hysterically when I read this. I can just see it to, what she's saying... "Iz runnin to the door to get those loud peeps makin nois....IEEEEEEE!!!! VACUUM!!!! Mommas bed! Mommas bed!!!" I don't think it's evil, but I do have a sick sense of humor.

| it's working really well, lol. she'll take off then practically run in the opposite direction, looking so disappointed that she can't tell them off! it wasn't an intentional idea, it just sort of came to me, lol. i figure that'll be less traumatizing then yelling, getting up, squirt bottle, threatening to take the sqeakers out of all her toys(JK!)

YT Addict | Nope not evil at all, we had a black lab that could clear a 5ft fence, he always jumped the entry gate because it was the lowest, he was also afraid of black. SO we put a HUGE black pot at the entry gate and he never jumped the fence again. We also used our BLACK vaccum to keep him away from the computer desk as he likes to jump that too knocking over our monitor constantly. Mind you he also was scared of darker greens, reds, black people!, etc. I think dogs are color blind as all of those colors would show up as a shade of black on a b&w scale.

| As long as she is not terrorized by the vacuum, you are simply using the vacuum as a training device for as long as the effect lasts. Sometimes it takes all we've got to try to outfox them so we use what we can as long as it works!

| yeah, i don't think she's terrorized, she just , then! she doesn't act scared afterwards, sometimes she'll give a few tiny muffled barks as she resumes normal activity. if it makes her feel "successful" i don't mind!

| No, I knew that about you - just kind of posting that for others who might read this and do something really scary things to train their dog. I hope it works and if it does, you can copyright a new vacuum clearner anti-dogbarking training video and sell it on Infomercials!!! Start a retail empire!

If you go to all of the forums on the main YT Forum page there's Off Topic Games. In there is a game called "Ban the Person Above You". http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/off...-you-game.html It's really fun and funny. The basis is to "ban" someone from there from some ridiculous reason, even tho they always come back making the job tireless & endless you can read some of the more recent pages to see what I mean. It's a place to be laid back, witty, & be able to give & take a joke. The whole title thing...well, you will probably see in time.
