Sad Newbie Needing Guidance

How great!! I'm glad you've decided to become Lucy's mom! You have done a great thing by rescuing her. She obviously was not loved at her previous home... I'm glad to hear that she is getting the vet care she needs.

wow, like those before me, Bless you for saving and loving this little girl. I am glad that Lucy is responding to her meds. One day at at time and soon it will be a week at a time. She sounds like she has found a great home and mom.

I hope that the vet will have great news for you and Lucy. It sounds as though she is a true fighter and has learned to survive thru adversity. I am sure that she has come to know what love is being with you in this short amount of time.

Where abouts are you in Baltimore? I'm on the eastern shore.

Well, I guess this makes it official. I am a Yorkie mom. Yay! From the looks of things, I'm in pretty good company around here. You guys are just the best. I will continue to read and learn as much as I can from the site. There is such a wealth of information here about so many different topics, and I need to get up to speed quickly. I'll stay in touch, and let everyone know how it's going. Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you all for the kindness. I'll celebrate and cling to each of your words in the good times, and be comforted during the sad and sleepless nights.

It will take a little time, but one day you will look at Lucy and she will let you know she is now home. No more pain, no more hunger, no more yearning for just a small morsel of kindness. She now has her own bed to sleep in, all the food she wants and more love from you in one moment than she has probably felt in her entire lifetime. I am so happy for her!

I am in Baltimore too and have Tiny that was also very mistreated. Once Lucy has settled in and finished her surgeries we should get together. There are several wonderful members close to you that would be happy to support you and help if needed.

I say if you can afford all the medical help she is going to need then by all means keep her and show her that all humans are not bad. Give her the life that she so much deserves after all she has been through. You are her angel. I thank God that there are people like you in this world. Good luck.

My Lady is a rescue (adopted at age 4.5). She had seizures three days after I adopted her and was officially diagnosed with epilepsy a month later. A year and a half later, she was diagnosed with diabetes. Over the next couple of years she was diagnosed with crippling arthritis, allergies, thyroid disease, and a heart murmur. She almost died twice when she was eight. No one, especially my vets, expected her to make ten years old.

She will be 16 this year. Her vision isn't that great. She was never the sharpest tool in the shed so her more frequent "senior moments" aren't that noticeable. I am like her full time nurse with insulin injections and all her meds.

I learned many years ago to stop worrying about when I was going to lose her and just enjoy each and every day I have with her. I hope you can do that with your Lucy.

Even if your time with Lucy was short, I think you wouldn't regret it for a minute. You'd be the human and compassion and love she didn't get to experience in her life ever before. I have to agree completely with all of those who have encouraged you to continue being Lucy's Mom. I understand that since you feel attached to Lucy, you think that your judgment might be clouded, and that trying to save her seems to be more out of your own wants/needs then Lucy's. Just the fact that you even thought that for a SECOND shows how much of a truly compassionate and empathetic person you are. Please, put those concerns aside and help this little girl. I don't think it is a coincidence that you fell in love with a yorkie, it didn't work out, and then this little one finds you. You are extremely admirable and I wish we had more people like you. In fact, I thrive everyday to be the person that you are presently.

Congrats to you for rescuing this little girl. Little insider secret- you can have some of Lucys medications called into a pharmacy and then it's super cheap. I know Anipryl through target is only like $2 for a 100ct.

Recovery has been slow for my sweet old gal. A week after surgery, I took her with us to the Florida Keys. Lucy loved all the new smells, and napping in the cool, salt air. My Mom's Keys vet removed the sutures, and monitored Lucy's progress. She also found 2 more small mammary tumors that we'll need to deal with soon. Things went exactly like so many of you said it would. Every single day I see more and more of "the new and improved Lucy" emerging. She does these cute little silly dances, and her tail wags a mile a minute. She looks at me with such adoring eyes, and her greatest joy in life is to snuggle up with me in the easy chair, or give me a little kiss on my hand or nose. I feel so guilty now to think that I questioned for a moment whether or not I was doing the right thing in getting her the surgeries. I am convinced that the sad, confused little dog I saw was really a little girl wracked with horrible pain. I am sure it's been many years since she felt this good. When we got back from Florida, I was faced with taking our 18 1/2 yr. old Irish Terrier, Wishbone, to the Rainbow Bridge. It was so sad, and it hurt so bad. I miss our old guy so much. I have been asking God to please leave me some good years with my little Lucy. Again, my new Y.T. friends gave great advice when they said not to worry about tomorrow, but just enjoys our "todays" together. Thank you everyone for your kindness and encouragement.

Wonderful news that Lucy is coming out of her former shell of a self! There is nothing in the world to compare to the "look" they give you when they stare deeply into your eyes. It makes my heart melt.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Wishbone but I can tell from your posts that you have given him the very best life he could have.

Keep us updated on your Lucy. She is stealing my heart as well.
