Lightbulb What else can i do?

My yorkie is very picky eater, I have tried so many high quality puppy food brand. She get bored with the food after few days. First she gets crazy eatting it, but after few days she doesnt eat unless she is very hungry then she will eat little amount. This makes me change few brand already but same situation occur. Right now i think she only eats less than 20 kibbles a day... I guess this is too little...If i change brand again she will not eat it after she gets bored within a week. I try to leave the food down and she always eat 1 or 2 kibbles within a hour when she is hungry...I don't think i need to change food brand again, Right now im feeding her wellness puppy food. she is very healthy and playful. Any ideas that can let my yorkie eats normal? for example: feed how many times a day? do i need to do 10min rules? Do i need to leave down the food when im sleeping at night?

Yorkies can be picky eaters, we have changed food many times over!
Do you mix anything in with the food?
We always mix in wet, and usually green beans. Our three would never eat their food dry.
We feed twice a day.
Does she get a lot of treats that might be cutting into her regular feeding?

I know the feeling.
Poppy is such a picky eater. She will eat all of her dinner then after one or two days she isnt interested anymore, so off I go to the shop to buy another brand which she will eat again but soon gets bored of.
Right now I have about 5 different brands of dog food at home! wet and dry!
So every day I give her something different, I mix them together so she has different flavours every day. Some days I will mix ham or chicken or cheese in with her food too and it seems to keep her interested for longer.
Some days she will hardly eat anything, not even half a bowl of food no matter how hard I try. Other days she will eat like a horse! scoffing down 3 or 4 bowls of food in a day. It's strange.
Just keep at it, a dog will not starve itself. If she is hungry and there is food she will eat.

Bella is a picky eater, too. We try chicken broth or sprinkle a little parmesan cheese on her food. She only eats about 1/8 of a cup a day if we are lucky.
Vet said she won't starve herself, so I try not to worry. Some days she eats right away and empties her bowl. So, I guess she does eat when she is really hungry. I don't keep buying new food as it doesn't work after a couple of days.
Good luck! Maybe some other members have the right idea about what to do. I'll be watching this thread for some new ideas. Gotta love these picky Yorkies.

My Mitsi was very picky until I started feeding Her Royal Canin. She still dosnt pig out on Her food though just grazes during the day. Have You tried adding a little skinless grilled chicken? That's what helped One of My close friends did to help Her picky eater.

My Belle doesn't eat some days unless I hand feed her one piece at a time. She will eat canned food when I mix it with the dry but leaves the dry food in her bowl. I feed her Blue Buffalo and she seems to like it but doesn't want to eat out of her dish. I can't leave her food down or my shih tzu eats it.

Teddie is a picky eater, he liked Royal Canin for 2 weeks and then didn't want anymore. He refused it even with his "go ga-ga for" treats balled up in it and various other additions. I tried Halo for him...a holistic friend turned me onto it and she has an extremely beautiful yorkie baby girl who is doing fantastic on it. He seems to like the puppy spot's stew with salmon. Every once in a while, to keep him interested I stick some green beans in it, and a few small pieces of chicken. He's such a ball of energy sometimes I think he has a hard time slowing down and eating...so I will put a few kibbles in my hand and he will eat it, and then face down in the bowl he goes for more on his own. Good luck...I know it's worrisome to have a pup that won't always eat what you buy.

Kenlong,

I had the very SAME thing happen to me !

I bet I tried six or seven (high quality) type foods, and
as hard as I tried (exercise/coaxing/demanding) absolutely
nothing worked.

I settled on Wellness, filled the bowl, leave it out 24/7,
and walked away from it !

Now, they eat twice a day, occasionally snack on a bite or two
in the meantime, are fed a few treats as well, and are
taking care of themselves just fine, WITHOUT my intervention !

Make it available, and let Mother Nature take her course !

Rosie is a picky eater also. But parmesan cheese works for us. It is like a magnet to Rosie. She can't stay away from it.

Yes, the one for humans. Kraft is fine. You will not have to put a lot on your food. Just a little. It should attract her to it. Good luck!

I'm just curious...why is it important to leave the food down for only 10 minutes? Are there other animals in the house that will come and eat it?
What if she isn't hungry right at that exact time? It'd be like someone putting your dinner plate down when you weren't hungry and say eat or that's it until the next meal. Wouldn't that be force feeding? I would think she'd learn to eat (over eat) whether she was hungry or not because she'd have learn it's now or much, much later.
I put fresh food in my dogs dish in the morning...the eat a few bites and it remains the rest of the day and then they finish it off around our dinner time.
My experience has been dogs are like kids...they'll eat if their hungry and not if they're not. And like kids regarding our food choices for them...they will train us well (to be at their beck and call) as long as we give into their whims.
I tell my dogs (as I did my kids) you have two choices: "take it or leave it".
Leave the dog's food down for a couple days --- no worries, they want to survive, they'll eat when they get hungry enough.
(of course I wouldn't recommend this for a small puppy who could get hypoglycemic quickly nor for a dog with a 'true' food allergy-type condition) So if your dog is mature, generally healthy...take charge. Find a reasonably healthy food that she'll eat (initially) and stick with it.

Default Picky Eater

Ceasar is a picky eater, I kept buying different brands. He hated the Blue Buffalo. Finally I started putting a small amount of cottage cheese on the dry food and mixing it up and he is eating every bite. I remembered when I bought a Corgi from a lady in Ohio telling me to mix the cottage cheese with her food to help her eat and it would settle her stomach if I changed her food.

I think this way he is getting a little calcium too. If you get the low fat kind you will not be adding extra fat to the dog's diet.
