| Spay while in heat? I had scheduled for my rescue to get her spay on 4/8...but I think she's in heat. She bleeding, but not a lot. Her pee pee area is swollen, which I thought was from her giving birth before. She went crazy when I put a diaper on her yesterday. I told my friend about this and she told me that she has her period (she is more experienced than me). What do I do?!?! Can I still spay her on time?? I really don't want to reschedule because I waited for about a month for that appointment... I've never had a bitch in heat as mine is spayed at 1. Is there any do's and don'ts? There's a yorkie meetup this Saturday and I've been looking forward to it. I wanted to see how she would interact with other dogs...I've had her for 5 weeks. Should I not let her down at all? [this may be a stupid question...]

| What does your vet say about it?

| I would call your Vet's office and explain what is happening to them and see what they say. As far as the meetup, I have no idea and know I am the yorkie newbie around here but I wouldn't take a female in heat to any place where a large group of dogs would be meetup, dog park or anything like that. I would be afraid it would cause a commotion among the males at the event that are not fixed but that is just a opinion.

Yorkie Yakker | its risky your better off waiting til she is out of heat...... i use to work as a vet tech and the charges for the spay goes up when they're in heat and its more risky..... i'd wait til after she was out of heat.... |

| i had princess spayed while she was in heat a short time ago. she had it done at the humane society, they didn't charge extra & everything went great. the only extra precaution they told me to take was to keep her away from all males for 2 full weeks afterwards. obviously she can't get pregnant, but i guess she's still "attractive" to males. i was worried about not having it done, as my dog is frequently exposed to my sisters unaltered dog, so i outweighed the pros & cons. the clinic and my personal vet both told me it was fine to go ahead with it. good luck with what ever you decide.

| There would be more blood involved and so more risk to your girl. It is better for her to wait. She also shouidn't be around the other Yorkies while in heat (and can't be immediately post spay anyway because no running, climbing, jumping, or wrestling is allowed). I'd postpone both. Very sorry.
