I would also suggest a referral to UT. We are lucky to be within driving distance. I was having a lot of problems with Snickers and finally took him there for diagnosis and treatment. Best decision we could have made for him. He was also getting sick constantly. Would be on antibiotics and be fine and then about 3 days after treatment he'd get sick again.

He was diagnosed with MVD and Clostridium overgrowth. The Clostritidium overgrowth was something that they only test for at a specialist. Initially, we had to give several medications for a couple of weeks, but now, we've been treating him with Tylosin, as well as Denamarin for liver support, for the last 6 months and he has greatly improved.

No, the "experts" are the ones treating them. They meet with you along with some students who follow them and watch the process. They have residents who ARE DVM's do some things also, but for me, at least, I had the head of small animal medicine who took my case.

I found that the interns did things like type up discharge papers and call with updates throughout the day. They practice communicating with owners. Since they take a lot of hard cases there, I think they probably let them brainstorm with ideas about what could be wrong and how to treat it. They don't do diagnosis and treatment unsupervised though. I would not trust anyone more than the folks at UT. Honestly, they were awesome.

Well, it was risky but since the vets were talking about "quality of life" issues with Jilly having been ill so long and no other Dx except her gastoenteritis, the vets were talking of just keeping her hooked to an IV there at the clinic while they sought out another consult for her to A&M. I took her home to just try my own regimen for a couple of days. I took her off of the antibiotics they had her on(each dose caused a fresh bout of horrible diarrhea followed with diarrhea changing into the dark, tarry stool), gave her a 1/4 quarter full of a dropper of kaopectate, and syringed sugar water 1/4 - 1/2 tsp. in her lip pocket once every 15 -45 minutes and took her off her last special dog food. After about 8 - 10 hrs., I gave her a few pieces of the Science Diet kibble all mashed up into powdery bits and she licked it off the tip of my finger. Later, she licked a bit more off. I had her on a towel wrapped heatig pad turned to low for her rumbling tummy(could hear her thrashing insides - knew she had riotous gas) for about 15-30 mins. at a time, and after a bit, I gave her a drop or two of Simethicone from a Phazyme capsule I had. Her stools would vary from awful diarrhea/pus to the dark, sticky stools but they started to get less watery when they were diarrhea and less dark and sticky after a 2nd dose of the kaopectate 6 hrs. later. We kept up this regimen for about 2 days and she began to eat the Science Diet off my finger with relish and drink water on her own so I gave her the kibble sort of broken up into smaller pieces and she gobbled it. Next dose of kaopectate was just 1/8 of the dropper and 6 hrs. later, another 1/8. Her stool began to get quite firm and normal and went from that to what turned out to be "normal" for her, slightly dry. Took her off the kaopectate and over the next few days right after any strange stool, I gave her 1/8 dropper of Pepto-Bismol to soothe her tummy every 8 hours or so. Within about a week, she was doing great. Wasn't too long after that she was panting for a bite of my Cheerios and I got her a dry Cheerio out of the box and gave it to her. Boom! Within hour or so, vomiting, both diarrhea bouts - runny water turning into sticky/dark later - loud tummy sounds - sick little girl. I redid my original treatment for a day and she settled back down and got well again. Thereafter, even the tiniest bit of regular dog treat of any kind, any bite of human food and she was very sick again for 12 - 20 hours so I learned this little dog of mine could not eat anything ever other than the Science Diet Sensitive kibble so I learned to make treats of it, cook it, microwave and bake it to give her some variety but that is how she lived the rest of her life out and she flourished. As I say, that is what worked for Jilly when her myriad vets and I were all at a loss as what to do next and I do not know if any of that would help or hurt your baby at all. I sure hope you do find out what will help her as it is a scary and awful time when your baby is not responding to vets' care but is just getting worse. My prayers are going out to you and your baby.
Everything you mention is what is happening to Maya. ESPECIALLY being able to HEAR her tummy make those awful sounds. I think you have me on to someting here.

THe on problem I will have is when I go out of town , At her other home they let them eat popcorn, chicken , whatever, after she has come home she always get sick.

Well, this sounds like the real problem.

Maybe you should show them this found online:
Warnings
Popcorn treats are not advisable for small, or toy, breeds, as the kernels and hulls can become lodged in either esophageal or rectal passages.

Default Vet care still required

Whatever the reason for the tummy upset, the dog will usually have those increased bowel sounds one can hear. I would still get her a 2nd opinion and even more just to be sure about the extent of her diagnosis but should it turn out to be acute gastroenteritis, non-responsive to treatment, as Jilly's was, just be mindful of whether your dog is one like Jilly that was actually further sickened by the treating good and/or medicatins if she is getting sick over and over. Jilly and I found out the hard way that her G-I tract just could not handle most things dogs typically ingest. She never got an exception to this - just the slightest thing would tip her over the edge and while she was never as ill as during her first very acute episode since I would start her "treatment", she always had a negative reaction with much vomiting and diarrhea. I never had and probably never would again have the temerity to go against veterinary advice but as I watched Jilly only get worse with every treatment all of her vets administered, I came to the singular conclusion that in this case with this dog, the meds were actually contributing to her acute intestinal irritation far more than they were helping. I doubt that I could ever do something like that again but direct observation of her sudden, acute exacerbations of symptoms led me down that path. I got the feeling that her vets were not listening to me about the meds or special foods making her worse once dispensed, so, with her fading very fast, I took a chance that in this instance I might be right. Once, I took her home, the one female vet advised me on the amounts of the kaopectate and Pepto, etc., to try for Jilly but I could practically hear her rolling her eyes over the phone when I called with questions but at least she was amenable to my trying those things since nothing else was helping Jilly the least bit. Looking back, I realize that it was foolish and I do not recommend it except as an example that once in a while even the experts with their exams, consultations, tests, etc., are not always 100% able to see the whole picture and sometimes do not give adequate consideration to what the pet owner tells them about the dog's interval history and symptoms, instead of just trusting in their various medications, very special dog foods, etc. In Jilly's G-I case, they just did not believe their medications and the very special food were actually adding to the morbidity of her acute gasroenteritis.

I found many ways to learn to fix Jilly'sr food to give her as much variety as possible but Jilly was never a picky eater once she got well. But I was forever a believer in that Science Diet Sensitive kibble for Jilly as it was all she could safely eat without a seriously very bad bout of vomiting and diarrhea. What is so remarkable now is I have a 3rd Yorkie in my life, Tibbe, who has never vomited(has spit up a few times) or never had diarrhea! He can eat anything.

But nothing about Jilly's acute G-I episode has changed my mantra about what to do when my dog is behaving strangly, ill or injured - get them to the vet as soon as possible and get consultations as necessary. My veterinarians have been right about every other single illness or injury in my dogs' lives(including the rest of Jilly's) over the years except that one so I think they have a pretty good record!

I swear by taste of the Wild I feed the foul.

Orijen is also good, so are many others...
Go grain-less and with an irritant free food (I'd avoid red meat, or pork-it's harder on digestion-but I do that here just because it's not natural-or foods too "rich" such as some fish flavors).

*I swear I just said all this today-do the same with ALL treats...and no more "junk" people food to ensure it's not the issue.

** I'd get a second opinion from another vet, redoing all the testing to ensur eit was not an error the first time...that stinks you did it all right the second time and still got a sick pup...nothing is "fool proof " or guarenteed...but it really stinks that happened...also are you keeping a written record of foods, behaviors, areas you go, everythgin to later look at the pattern and show it to the vet to see if there's something since this is so clockwork...? If not I really would start doing so immediately.

My Nanny had to have a semi 'surgery' to remove popcorn kernel from her...it has the same warning for people as well.

I'm naughty I give our dogs the popcorn we eat-which is organic...

The butter and salt and preservatives on it also really effect dogs...especially making a dog sick
