| Think about it and get what you want. Healthy yorkies have a long life span so getting a yorkie pup is a long term commitment. I was raised with both male & female yorkies in my extended family. There were males I loved & females I loved, and some of each sex that I didn't care for as much. How a pup behaves has soooo much to do with how it is raised & trained. I think there are loving males and females as well as those that aren't the lovey dovey type, but training is critical with both sexes.

| We have 2 girls and 2 boys. I really wanted a girl yorkie. The first one who joined us of this bunch. I never really wanted a boy due to marking and the humping issues. Dh wanted a boy when he went to look at a long hair chi. He went to specifically look at the boy. He fell in love with the girl (Puff). I talked him into a pom. We love black dogs for some reason. The only black ones were boys. So we got Seymour. He was neutered early so no lifting of the leg. Then a couple of months ago, I was reading Craigs list (not allowed to do that anymore as per dh!) and saw an ad for a male lh chi for 25.00. Talked dh into it and we now have Harley. He marked everything he came around. He was already 15 months. After we had him neutered, have not had much of a problem. Every so often he seems to want to mark something, but not often. Also, I have to say of all our babies, he is the most loving of the bunch.

| Rocco is my first male dog. he is paper-trained, he was neutered at 6months. he is now 9 months. He does not mark in the house and very limited marking outside. he does however always lift his leg when he pees and never squats. Thank goodness he has good aim!! Like all the others said, he is oh so lovable, and so attached to me. He is my shadow.

| I LOVE MY BOYS!!!! I have 2!!!! As soon as we decided we were getting another Yorkie....I only wanted a boy. Actually my Snickers does not get along well w/ female terriers so I had no choice but honestly, I think I would have gotten another boy no matter what!!!! Both my boys are SO LOVEY and SNUGGLY!!!! Snickers will cuddle at any given time and comes and sits in our laps!!! Reesie will cover me with kisses and then jump all over me!!! I love them both to bits. Snick only marks outside-2.5 years old. Reesie has not marked anything yet but he is only 5 months old. Plan to get him neutered at 6.5-7 months. I don't know what I would do without my boys!!!!!! ![]() Viv

| One thing I've noticed about the boys in comparison to the girls: When you use pee pads indoors, sometime the pup doesn't actually end up completely over the pee pad. With my female, if the back end is a bit off, she doesn't hit the pad. With my boy, even if the back end is a bit off, "parts" are still over the pad and "pointing forward," so he is actually better at hitting the pad. One thing to consider ......

| I wanted to say this because no one else pointed this out in the same way: A male marker: can wear a belly band and learn to correct that way along with leashing to yourself. A female marker: best of luck trying to get a belly band to fit her correctly. But the training is the same. My BF and I both had naughty markers my male was so much easier to break of this than his female...I prior to meeting her had no idea females could be markers too.

| I've had male and female dogs (well, only Lucy) but she is soo loveable; I think it depends on the individual dog. Neither of my male dogs purposely marked inside the house. Now outside, yes, they hiked their legs on every tree and shrub they passed. OK, and ONCE Ringo peed on the blanket we brought Lucy home with ~ but that was kind of understandable ![]() Both dogs were neutered and both dogs were trained to go outdoors.

| YT Addict | Hi, I am new to this forum. I would love to get a Yorkie, so I have started looking around and learning what I can about this wonderful little dog. At first I was leaning towards a female, but after reading, a male might be better. This bundle of fur will be only a pet and not for showing or breeding. Thanks for the important info that you all provide. |
