IF you did buy in a pet store - I would just say I'm glad you had a good exprience and never judge your for your choice - it's just not the way I am. These posts are strictly for informational purposes.

that would be like me getting upset everytime someone mentioned a Backyard Breeder - which is where I got Chanel from. You won't ever hear me upset when I see them discussed. I made my choice when I bought her and have never looked back - I can't imagine my life without her and I'm sure you feel the same way about your dogs no matter WHERE they came from -

YorkieShadow - I got cut off and was going to add - I'm sorry you get this sensitive about pet stores.....When things like this are posted from my standpoint - it's only to help those who don't know this goes on. Back when I first learned about the whole Mill / Pet Store issue - I was SHOCKED and haunted for a long time

Now I see where the saying 'Don't shoot the messinger' comes from LOL.....I would never intentionally hurt someones feelings about where they bought their dog - you missed the whole point of my thread.

And if you think that not all puppies in petstores come from mills, that's just naive There might be a tiny percentage of pet stores that get their puppies from local breeders, I'll give you that. However, the money to be made by buying puppies cheaply from the mills is way too attractive to the greedy ones. It's just not cost effective for them to buy from breeders, and any responsible breeder more than likely wouldn't sell to them. I'd love to hear any breeders take on selling to pet stores, if they would or wouldn't and why.

I agree I dont feel like this was necessary to say. This is a great reminder about puppy mills and I dont see any harm in it being bumped up

Lunasmomma - my intention was NOT to offend anyone and that's why I felt hurt by that post - and you're so right - any reputable ETHICAL CARING breeder would never sell to a pet store .....the Breeders I talk to on a regular basis would rather cut off their arm than ever sell their puppies to a pet shop

and you're right - the percentage of shops that buy from so called 'breeders' is very small when you look at the big picture - and my post was about the big picture - not who bought in pet stores.

I just dont understand how anyone can do this to any living thing. My Maddie means the world to me and I feel bad if I have to leave her longer than usual. These people need to be put in a cage, not fed, pee and poo on themselves and see how they like it. It is just gut renching!!! Those pics just make you cry. I fell so bad for the little guys. I just want to give them all a good home and plenty of hugs and kisses.

Our babies just dont know how good they have it. We must do all we can do to stop the puppy mills.!!

I got Maya my Pom from a AKC Pet store that sold only dogs. Maya has been very healthy and a very pretty girl. BUT her personality is horrible. She barks constantly, and until I got Cali stayed under the bed 90% of the time. Bites me if I try and give her a pill, clean her eyes or in anyway invade her space. I am just now geting over a bad bite to my fingernail and nailbed from trying to give her a pill. A lot of people ask why I don't give her away or put her to sleep. Because I love her and I feel it is not her fault but the bad breeding she was subjected to. When I make a commitment I honor it. I just know what to expect from her. So not only are puppymill dogs sickly they can have bad temperment problems that are not their fault and then they end up in shelters.

She was not throwing that up in anyones faces. She is just trying to educate people as to what goes on in most petstores and where they come from.

If you got your baby from a petstore and they are heathly then that is great, but that is not always the case.

Thank you again - one of my very best friends bought her Pepper from a pet store - if I EVER thought anything I say would ever hurt her feelings or anyone elses....I'd be guilt ridden - I ONLY post about this because I'm thinking about the dogs out there that still need help -

I totally understand what it means to fall in love and want to save a dog - but the problem isn't about one dog - it's about thousands....and keeping pet stores in business just keeps it going...it's easy to say there may be a few 'good' ones - but the sad reality is ...9 out of 10 Pet store puppies are from mills.

I thought of this thread last night bc there is a new store opening in my town....PETLAND! Ugh it makes me so sad. This weekend is the grand opening and they have all kinds of commercials all over the tvs and radios right now. Tomorrow is the grand opening and for the first 200 customers that walk through the door they get $200 off their puppy of choice! It says we have over 60 breeds so there will be a puppy for everyone! I hate it, it makes me so sad and mad. I want to print off flyers and hand them out at that door

People need to be reminded daily of the misery puppymillers create. Many people come here totally unaware of the pet shops connection between a broker and then the connection to the miller.

Many shops prefess to buy from reputable breeders...that is never the situation as a reputable breeder takes the time to place their own puppies.

There is very posh store in Manhatten that charges $3000 plus for pups and guess where they get them?

SIGHHHHHHHHHHHH I don't even know what to say that would be right. I have seen SO MANY puppy mills in person, plus I rescue .... and yet I myself have fallen into the trap of SAVING a dog from a petstore....GO FIGURE

I guess the bottom line is stop buying dogs from petstores and it will put the Mills out of business. Is it a perfect answer ...NO.... but the best one that has been thought of so far

I did read most of the threads. I didnt say thats what you did I said I hope it wasent .I know you SPECIFICALLY said that in your post . So you must of thought people would think that too, Or you wouldnt of said it. And no My puppys came from Breeders. And it just seemed this was brought back up at about the time of all the petstore puppy threads. And Im not upset. would be if someone was going against the ones that did post they got their puppys from Petstores because thats their bussiness not yours or anyone elses. And you ask why I said that the reason is because I see some thing like that happen all the time.WEll you know cause you have too. But no Im all for shuting puppy mills down.
