| ![]() I am really starting to think hard about grooming Callie and my moms rescue myself instead of taking them to the groomer. I have the time. So I was wondering first if anyone knows of a yorkie grooming dvd I could watch for the puppy cut? Also if anyone who grooms there own yorkie could fill me in on hardness, all the tools needed, and anything you might not think about before deciding to groom your own yorkie. Opinions are always welcome too ![]()

| ![]() Think of it this way, it's a time for you and Callie to "bond", you can use it to play, learn new tricks, show her your love and other than just have a clean dog, it can be just plain fun. DON'T let it stress you!! Remember it's just hair, it will grow back if you screw up with the cut. You could take her to the groomers and spend $50 bucks and STILL get a crappy do. Growing hair is one of the things our babies do really well. Watch the video, look at the pics, I bought a pair of small scissors at Petco, used my old hair dryer on low, non soap type shampoo & conditioner (earthbath I think), lots of treats, loves and praise, you know, pretty baby, etc. If your worried about the toenails or the ear hair don't do it, they don't have to be done all the time, watch the ears so they don't get dirty, waxy and the toenails too long. I clean Sprockets ears w/a damp cotton ball after the bath IF he has wax. The eye gunky, just use a wet cotton ball, make the gunk soft, remove it, this part is per the vet. And the toenails, when Sprocket goes into the vet They trim them, like once or twice a year. Sorry this was so long. Mostly Have Fun.

| ![]() I groom Jackson myself cause I don't trust anyone with him. I am horrible at it, but I get the job done. I bathe him first and clean out his ears with ear cleaner and wipe his eyes and face, I use baby shampoo so it won't hurt his eyes. Then I wrap him in a towel and put him on the counter and trim around his eyes and head, whatever he needs at the time. Then when he is a little dry I trim the rest of his body. Really depends on the temp outside and in the house. I like to do it on warmer days. Then I take him to the bathroom and run the dryer on him, which is actually more effective when I am drying my own hair and he stands below me wanting to play in the wind, when its actually for a purpose he tends to try to run off, so, i usually let him rub on the carpet to dry himself. I do keep him kinda short so he doesn't tangle. He is still too much of a puppy to have long hair. I got a somewhat hyper one. Hope this helps. |

| ![]() I would recommend checking out ebay for a dvd that I purchased from a yt member a couple of years ago. She specifically shows grooming yorkies in it. She goes over all the equipment that you will need and offers info on where to order. I was able to have my Petsmart price match my clippers from the pricing in the catalog so that is something that you may want to take a look at. It never hurts to ask about that. Even though I groom them I still take them to get their nails and anal glands done. Good luck with it and I enjoy grooming my 2, it's definitely a bonding experience.
