| Looking for a Yorkie puppy or 2 rescue one... Hi everyone. I just signed up for YorkieTalk because I have had 4 Yorkies whom have all passed away from major illnesses. I have tried to force myself into liking another breed but just can't do it. So...After having gone through the pain and anguish of watching my dogs die terrible deaths, I do not want to go through that again. I have 2 questions...How do you check to make sure that the Yorkie you get is healthy? and Other than spending 3,000 at breeders, is there a rescue where I can adopt a Yorkie and save it's life? |

| There are tons of yorkies that need homes. Check out petfinder.com Here's a sibling pair: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/18324512 Last edited by LDMomma; 01-17-2011 at 01:40 PM. |

| You may want to try adoptapet.com. You may have to try a larger city near you because nothing came up when I entered your zip 85044. Here are some cuties in Phoenix... Adopt-a-Pet.com :: Adopt One of these Great Dogs!

| Hey I have a friend who is the breeder of 3 of my yorkies. Right now she has 1 male yorkie who is 4 months old and another litter that are 6 weeks old. She has just sent one of her males to Germany to live with an army family. If interested just PM me. We live in Georgia. I can understand why you would want another yorkie and sad to hear you have lost your because of health problems. Fortunately all 4 of mine are in excellent health.

Try Yorkie Haven Rescue www.yhr.org First with an older dog that has been rescued, they will be fully vet checked, and health problems are fixed prior to placement. By the time a dog is 4 or 5 yrs old many many potential problems Health and temperament wise will have manifested. LP, CT, HD, PRA, bladder/kidney etc. Good luck with your search

| One note about rescues: Make sure you do your research and assure they are reputable (and actually exist) like you would with a breeder. You need to research your rescue. Puppymills and bad breeders pose as rescues on sites like petfinder, so just be careful and make sure the place you are buying from is actually a rescue Rescue is such a great option! I hope you can find your new baby at one |

| You might also want to contact breeders and let them know you might be interested in a retired momma. Most of the time these girls are under 5-6 years old, health checked, and have great temperaments. Plus most breeders just want to find excellent homes for their retired girls and don't ask for much money to rehome them to a great home. When I retire a momma I just ask for enough to pay for their spay and teeth cleaning. Teresa |
