| Hawks and Owls? Our neighbor just told us that there hawks have been known to be in the neighborhood in the springtime. We just moved here in the winter so haven't seen them. Our yorkie, loves to be outside, sniffing the backyard, playing, etc. But since we heard this, we've been quarantining him inside. It's so sad because he keeps scratching at the backdoor to be let out. Do you have any suggestions for us on how to keep hawks away from our backyard and our dog? |

| I don't think you can keep them away, I'm not sure. But I would watch very carefully! I would let him outside on a close leash.

| "Our" hawks, and I say that loosely, never leave the ranch. All 4 seasons they are stuck like glue. In the winter time they like to walk about the lawn. This past year we acquired two owls somewhere in the woods. You can hear them but I have not seen them. You have to be extra careful of these because they can and will take your little one out for lunch or dinner....and I don't mean in a good way. |

| I have a hawk in my neighborhook as well...so I did some research on it and found that if you put shinny thing like wind chimes or anything that is shinny in your trees hanging off your fence, house that they will keep a hawk away. Here is a thread on the same topic...and it has all the links I looked up on it and another thread as well. Hawks in my Yard

| I think we Floridians have to watch our babies every moment outside if they are smaller than a teapot! lol We have hawks, buzzards, snakes, poisonous frogs, armadillos, possums, racoons, etc. You name it, we have it. Some even have alligators, but we haven't seen any yet. One of these black buzzards tried to take Ally away when she was younger. I sprayed it with a water hose to scare it off. |

We have all that here except for the poisonous frogs(so I think but I would not be shocked and amazed if we did) oh yea and alligators. I would not be surprised of that either. We have to be so careful. Because as much as I want to eat them up!!! I am sure there are other creatures that would like to do the same!! | |

| Please be very careful when your pup is outdoors. I aways keep Calleigh on a leash. I don't know if a hawk would try to pick her up when she has the leash on or not. I know if one tried, the talons could do a lot of harm to her, if not kill her. I couldn't believe the first time I saw a hawk stalking my pup. I was sitting with her on the lawn and the hawk was right above us in a tree. We got up to move and the hawk flew next door to my neighbors roof and continued to watch us. Needless to say, we went indoors. I am always on the lookout now. I would suggest you keep your pup on a harness and leash at all times when you are out. I know it takes the fun out for their being able to run free, but you don't want to take the chance of something dreadful happening. Take care.

| This is VERY VERY scary!!! A friend of mine had her dog taken and killed by a hawk!! I would not take any chances and would definitely not let you dog out without being on a leash. It's just too too dangerous.

| Well, we do have the bears, but it's not bad in our area. The news is saying some of our areas are getting bad. They've made special trash cans so they don't get in them! lol I did see a bobcat at our other house about 11 years ago (about three miles down the road). Both can stay there. I don't want them here. I hope they're not bad in your area. That is super scarey! Do you see them? |
