Luv my 7 Furkids Donating Member | Is any of your yorkies afraid to walk on floors? my Toby is a big baby. He is afraid to walk on the wood floors. He does fine on cement, carpet, tile, grass, but is afraid of linoleum and wood. Ive been thinking of getting him some soft shoes with a rubber grip bottom, see if that helps. Any suggestions? Oh its not because his nails are long or that the hair is not cut on his pads, because hes a weenie, they get trimmed every week. Im puzzled. I tell ya the boy yorkies are weenies. But I love em anyway. lol |

| Too funny! He will come around, I am sure. Maybe when he gets to that part of the floor you can get down on your knees and start "puppy" calling him to you. Entice him with a little treat or something. |

| I would skip the shoes because Toby will end up wearing them all the time, forever. He has to overcome his fear or dislike of the flooring. Max has a thing for cement. We walk in the street, so he doesn't have much experience with sidewalks. Also, I trained him never to go in the garage, which has a cement floor. I'm trying to re-train him to walk with me through the garage now that I have 2 boys and it is easier to enter/exit the house that way. You should see him on the garage floor. It's like I'm asking him to walk across hot coals. He isn't much better on sidewalks, but we are working on it. Cesar Milan worked with a Great Dane who was afraid of shiny floors after taking a nasty spill on one. He took the dog out running and then ran back in the house toward the shiny kitchen floor. The dog balked many times and pulled Cesar down. Eventually the dog ran straight into the kitchen before he remembered the floor. Once there, he froze for a moment, but then walked around normally.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Morgan isn't a fan of anything without traction. She will walk on them but will not run or play on wood, tile, laminent, linoleum, etc... Even though her nails are trimmed and her pads are shaved she just cannot get traction and she is afraid she will fall. She also will not go up or down wooden stairs. She knows she will slip and just will not attempt it. She'll sit there and whine at the top or bottom until someone carries her. I'm thankful she understands that she can fall and won't attempt them.

| There was an episode of "It's Me or the Dog" about a little Maltese who was afraid to walk on bare floors. Not sure if you can watch the episodes online. Victoria used carpet squares to make a path for Pumpkin in the kitchen and used a lot of praise and encouragement. She gradually made the squares farther apart and removed some until Pumpkin was brave enough to cross the kitchen floor on her own. |

| My Emmie does not like the hard wood flooring. My kitchen and living room are an open area. I have rugs like in front of the sink or under the coffee table, the normal places. I bought some matching rugs and placed them in other areas. Like in front of love seat or in front of hutch that has the microwave. This way she never has to travel to far without hitting a rug. This has made it easier for her to get where she wants to go by herself.

| Grass maybe, but not hardwood I bet that's frustrating but cute at the same time. My new babies are not fond of grass at first, but then they come around.

Obi was afraid to walk on the hardwoods and we figured out he could see himself!! He was afraid of his own reflection....it was so funny! We put treats down on the hardwood so he had to overcome his fear to get them. Food wins every time!

| My little girl was afraid to walk on any floor that was not carpeted when we got her. She was also afraid to go in any other room in the house other than the living room. But she came around, we used some of her favorite treats to entice her out on the hard floor. Now she goes everywhere but she still will not lay on the hard floor. We'll have to work on that for a little longer. |

| We've tried the treats and all and Daisy still struggles....she hasn't gotten over it. She just works up the nerve and slides all over the place. If she would just walk she would be ok. Der.

| Sapphire walked and ran fine on the hardword floor in my kitchen. Then, one day she refused to enter. I don't know what happened to cause her to react this way. I use rubber backed 2x3 rugs for placemats for the feed bowls, so I put a few down 2-3 feet apart, which she appreciated and used. After about two weeks she got over it, I did remove the rugs one by one a few days apart. She will not do a 'sit' on the hardwood, she insists on a rug or bed under her diva butt!
