What is a baby doll face yorkie? Can someone show me what they look like? - Page 4 - YorkieTalk.com Forums

I have to agree that the terms "baby doll face" and Tea-cup size" are commonly used as a marketing tool. I have had my baby for about a month now. The first thing that attracted me to him was the PRICE! I asked to see the mom and dad only to see what color they were. I was sold. The mom and dad were a little lighter than I would have wanted but I couldn't pass him up because the prce was so good. I didn't want a show dog I only wanted a pet. I took him to the vet and he is very healthy and is also a good weight. Before when I started looking I often asked how much for the males because afterall they didn't cot as much as a female. I often got told that is depended on the sizes. The smaller they were the more they cost. I was told "My yorkies are tea-cups and the price is determined by their sizes."
Prior to buying my baby I did lots of research. Everything I read always said that smaller was NOT always better. But I can honestly say that just about ever breeder I contacted told me that their Yorkies were Tea-Cups.

I think you have gotten off topic a bit here. I was not saying that all "good breeders" do not use the term...just saying I do not feel that "good breeders" ever use the term when referring to their dogs!

Not sure who you are trying to take down... but all breeders lines are not free of genetic faults and those come in a variety of ways. Such as incorrect coat color, wide ear sets, low tail sets, poor movement...ect...just some food for thought! For a breeder they have to make a decision in which is more important for their lines at the time. I have known a breeder to use a fault I would not for a generation, and it never showed up in her lines again...but she got the coat and structure she was looking for. Breeding is not an exact science and those of you that think you have it all figured out...wait until you see a curveball.

WOW...I think it is terrible that people jack up the prices on their dogs the smaller they are. Prices IMO should be based on how well they represent the standard...and when they start getting too small it is hard for them to keep it all together (conformation wise). I would be more likely to spend more money on a larger yorkie (6-7 lbs) then on one that is less than 4 lbs. Just more to love!

I have had on more than one occassion a breeder friend gloat to me on the phone about how tiny their puppies were and how much money they could get for them then...ugh makes me sick...needless to say we are no longer friends. She was what I called a "closet teacup lover" ... LOL

You really seem to pick on what I say a lot. Can I ask why? Maybe you don't mean for it to come across that way. Since we are so close maybe you'd like to come to my home and meet me and my Yorkies. Or we can hook up at the Crown Classic in December.

After reading these posts and I have seen Irene's Stellar Yorkies website & think her yorkies are just gorgeous - I had a question - Denise ...Are you a breeder also ? do you have a site we can see ?

I love looking at pretty yorkies and since you are new here we'd love to check out your website if you have one....

Everyone usually has a preference when looking for a yorkie. Some look for coloring and only like the darker colors and some look for the silver/blue yorkies. Some look for lengths,short or long,short or tall.Silky hair,cotton hair...Short snout or longer snouts. I personally like the short snout and cute button eyes. My main preference is a Healthy pup. If a breeder knows what you are looking for then they usually tell you what you want to hear" Oh I have a darker one or little one/teacup!" I call the short snout,button eyes well set ears short compact body Baby doll face. Only because it's easier than saying that I have a short snout,big cute button eyes,well set ears . In the end I think ALL yorkies are absolutley beautiful. They are my favorite breed!

Why is it then that doll faced and tiny ones go for more money then?
One would think a good looking well mannered genetically almost perfect in standard little one be the dog that carries a better price.
If it not a fad or a marketing tool, what is it?

Are we creating what the breed needs or the public wants.
All breeds started and where created by doing what was needed for the public.
Public needed a smaller dog to kill rats it got one and a larger sized original Yorkie happened out of the general public not being allowed a big dog way back when, since then the public wanted smaller and smaller and it is happening. Just how tiny are they going to be taken. Are we going to see the day where we have standard, minni and teacup? Just like the poodles.( or what ever the types of poodles there are)
If it public wants ==== I want big ones like 7 to 9 pounders. Little ones break to easy.

Very good points, thank you for the reminders continuous education never hurt anyone. But with all do respect, this thread is not about breeding tinies.

You and 'Denise' may want to visit the other forums like Breeding or showing if you want to start sparks on these types of discussions.

First off: There have been so many replies here that it is impossible to quote them all. I disagree with using these terms to market pups for higher prices--I am sure most of this board's members do as well. However, WE all seem to be well aware of this--the fact that "Teacup," "Tiny," whatever does not make the dog a diff breed. Are there people who try to fool you into believing this? Yes, of course, but I don't think any of US do that...I think most of us use the terms, although they may not be correct, as descriptive terms for our babies. Therefor, I don't think WE need to be educated.
Secondly: Don't come on here talking about YTCA says this is standard and that is standard. I believe most of us know what is considered 'standard.' Don't discredit or try to make inferior those who own Yorkies that don't fit into the breed 'standard.' That would account for alot of us and is not a way to make new friends. There are alot of people on this board who have non-'standard' color Yorkies. There are alot of people on this board who have Yorkies under 4 pounds and over 7...again, not 'standard.' Again, I think it is a waste of time to try to 'EDUCATE' the members of this board on this...I think most of us are pretty well educated when it comes to this.
