| My new puppy Hi everyone, im new to this site and the reason why im here is because i just purchased a beautifull 7 week old baby boy last Saturday. Even though i am sleep deprived right now (lol) i cant say enough about Harley. Harley for the first 2 nights did not let us sleep, he was wining the whole night but last night he finally slept the whole night. I want to bath him cause he smells a little but i dont know if he is to young. Can someone please give me some feed back on if i could bath him and how to go about doing it? Thank you. |

YT Addict | Please have your baby vet checked also be aware how easily they can become hypoglycemic . Generally a Yorkie will be around 11 -12 weeks before they go to their new homes. But be cautious and don't put to much stress on his little system so I would probably advise some pet wipes. And I am sure you know until they are old enough to get their shots under way don't take them around other animals like at Petco and such, can easily catch something. Glad you are loving him, they are the best and I am positive you will become addicted like the rest of us. As long as he adapts, eats and drinks well you can easily progress to the sink, and picnic condiment bottles work fabulous to rinse off the head! Enjoy your baby and keep us posted! |

| Congrats on your new baby! Make sure you only use puppy shampoo! And I'd blow dry him afterwards...you don't want his blood sugar to drop because of anxiety.. Because he's so young I'd also make sure to have nutrical or honey on hand.

| Hi and Welcome to YT!! Harley is adorable I have a Harley too and he is only 17 weeks. Your Harley is really young he should still be with his Mom and littermates until 12 weeks or older...I wouldn't bath him at all until at least 10 weeks..maybe you could take a washcloth and just wipe him down to get some of the smell off of him and dry him with a blow dryer good so he doesn't get cold. Good luck with your new baby.

| i was also wondering his mother was 4 lbs and father was 3 lbs and his weight as of last sunday was 2 lbs at 7 weeks. What would be an estimate on how big he would get? I think he will be on the bigger side but thats fine with me. Last edited by HarleyM; 01-26-2011 at 12:49 PM. |

My Bailey RIP was only 5.5 lbs when she passed at 15 yrs old and her Mom was 10 lbs Dad was 5 lbs. My Bella is 9.6 lbs and her Mom was 7.2 lbs and Dad 4 lbs so it can go either way. My Harley is 17 weeks and he is 3.5 lbs his Mom is 7 lbs and Dad is 3 lbs...I'm hoping he gets to 7 lbs cause I like the bigger babies...more to love but we'll just have to wait and see.

Donating YT Addict | Congratulations on your baby make sure you get him vert checked because he is young to be allowed to go home yet & they can get very sick. Also, I wouldnt bathe him in water yet, because he is so little, so they make these wipes that clean them & make them smell better you can buy them at any pet store. They are like diaper wipes for puppys (they make ones for full grown dogs & others for puppies, make sure you buy the puppy ones)

| I feed my 5 month old cottage cheese, once in a while. I wouldn't with a 7 week old puppy if they are eating their feed. That is SO tiny and I wouldn't want to upset their little tummy. Cottage cheese is safe for dogs though.

| You can bathe him. Just be very careful not to get water in his ears. Don't let him get chilled, either. Have you taken him to the vet yet to have him checked out thoroughly? You should most certainly do this.

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | I bath mine just be sure he is in a warm place afterwards if you do not blow dry. Just don't want him getting chilled. I would also leave food in front of him all the time so he can eat when he wants being only seven weeks old and also water. And have nutri cal on hand just in case. He will need his first set of shots and have him wormed at eight weeks. And i would have the vet check him over You are going to love owning a yorkie they are just the best. Congrats and enjoy your new family member. |
