| male squatting pee-er with long coat question... Ok so I had no idea what to title this, but basically, I've got Harley's coat growing out, and he's grid trained, so he pees inside on this rubber grid. he squats rather than lifting his leg, and I'm noticing when he pees his belly hair is getting a bit wet, ick. Does this mean I'm at the limit for the length I can let his hair grow, I plan on doing agility anyway so I'm ok with not having a full show coat, but I still like the long hair. I trim around his man parts so that area doesn't get wet, but I've realized it's definitely from the hair dragging on the tray grids. (most pee filters down, but initially there is a bit of pee on the grid.

| Usually a "pee string," a little bit of hair on the penis directs the urine downward, away from the belly. I trim a little of the hair in front of the penis, upward toward the chest. If the sides of the coat are dragging through urine on the grid, the only options are to band the hair, like a show dog in wraps, or wash daily.

| This made me laugh. Bandit will sometimes pee on his belly hair between groomings. I have this little buzzer to shave it, but I keep their hair short. Would keeping a t-shirt on them help so it keeps the hair in the t-shirt while going to the bathroom? |

| Levi's hair is long-ish now (my goal in life would be for him to have a beautiful, flowing, long coat like Maximo's boys, but I get impatient waiting on that to happen so he ends up with a haircut ). Anyway, Levi is a total squatter when he pees. His coat is longer, but the underside of his belly is kept short and that has really helped with the peeing-in-the-hair problem. His groomer keeps his belly clipped short, and I just give it a little trim between groomings. Last edited by kdhawks; 01-25-2011 at 08:11 PM. |

| Not a strange question at all. YT taught me what a "pee string" was...I had no idea. Boomer leans forward to pee too, but his fur is short. I agree with the others....you could tie it up or wrap it. Better yet...invent something to remedy the problem

| I just shave my boys' bellies up to about their second rib. That way their is no hair in danger of getting wet and stinky plus they still have plenty of hair on their chest and you would never know they were shaved unless they are on their back.

| I keep some puppy wipes close to our potty pads. I picked the ones I'm using now up at petsmart, but I've used baby wipes too. Gulliver's a squatter too so he gets his tummy wiped off after he goes. Keeps him nice and fresh between baths and keeps the pee string from getting hard. eeew. |
