| A little hurt...:( I just came back from puppy classes with Teddy, and at the end of the class we all stood around in a circle and the trainer said, "well, I've been walking around and I've been observing how most of your dogs walk on leash, and for the most part all of your dogs did really well...except for THAT one right there...he's a piece of work." I usually have a pretty good sense of humor, but she didn't laugh, she said it very seriously and quite frankly it sounded extremely condescending...I just didn't see why she would point out Teddy in front of everyone...maybe I'm just too sensitive.

| Well what a meanie! I'd be tempted to find a new puppy class, I believe. When I took my female cavalier to her puppy class, the teacher said, "Oh, I see we have a princess with us in this class, all we need is a pillow." I felt the same way you do...shocked, embarassed and miffed! (Although, she was right, Emma IS a princess who's main goal is to laze around on a pillow all day; I, however, did not know that at the time.) Maybe she was just jealous, 'cause I can see from your pic that he's absolutely adorable! And we all know these yorkies are smart!

| Wow that was totally rude of her!! She must have something against toy dogs, I've met a few trainers like this. There was no reason for her to single you out in front of the whole class. I don't think your too sensitive, I would have been upset as well.

| I also encountered a trainer like this when I was taking a toy poodle through training classes. He was a huge pit bull person and just seemed to have something against small dogs, should of told me this before I signed up for class. Poodles tend to be very smart, like yorkies, but we couldn't do anything in that class because he spent the whole time ignoring us or making rude comments. I found a new class and that poodle is very well trained today!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Nincompoop Ok... I personally feel you have every right to be hurt. And no you are not to senstive, With me if someone said that to me, the mother bear comes out quick! How completely embarrassing this must have been for you. I would like to know if this trainer has a brain? Or any tact, I mean that is why you are there so he can learn how to do it, and not get discouraged. I would seek another trainers advise if it was me, or maybe go early the next time to to tell her how much that comment hurt, I am sure you paid good money for your class and you also deserve respect. I think if she is a so called "trainer" she should not be talking to people like that. So sorry you had to deal with such a nincompoop. Just know we love your Teddy and I am sure he walks beautifully on a leash

| I probably would have stuck my tongue out at her. Or, I might have said, "You're a piece of work, too, lady!" She was mean and rude. That was totally uncalled for. That is why you go to class - to learn - not be insulted.

| Oh, heck no I wouldn't find another class....I would march myself and my baby right back in there and ask just what was it he wasn't doing correctly...keeping an open mind to what she might say...after all, you are paying for this class....right??? After I listened to her and came to a mutual understanding of what she thought the problems was and what needed to be done to correct it....I would then proceed to explain to her that I was paying for their help in getting my baby to behave correctly not for him to be pointed out as a problem child....because to me, he is just that MY CHILD... and if you want trouble with a proud moma.....just do it again...then I would turn and leave until the class started, to get my point across...I would turn back around and say by the way...we have been working on ATTACK and he does much better at that , you wanta try it out??? |

| Thanks everyone for the replies...I've had such a hard time finding a good training establishment in Tallahassee...and I thought this organization (its a nonprofit) was a winner, but I landed this piece of treasure as trainer...I am the youngest person there (everyone else is A LOT older than I am) and I wonder if she said that to me because she thought because I was young she can say whatever she wants because of my age? I was so taken a back that I just stood there silently and didn't defend myself. She was only a substitute trainer the initial trainer wasn't so terrible...even though she "suggested" that I should not "shelter him" because he's a small dog...again she just said that AFTER I refused to put a collar on him that I would only allow a harness...maybe you guys are right and this place just has something against small dogs...I'm working so hard with Teddy and personally I think he's just too smart and since I'm a first time dog owner Teddy probably realizes it...that's why I was so upset because I am SURE that I walk him/play with him and spend the most time training him than anybody else in there...

| There are a lot of people out there that think you can treat a little dog just like a big dog. If you see her again, just tell her to speak to you with respect. Tell her you're paying for the class and that you expect no less than respect when she addresses you.

| I have to completely agree with these comments. That was very rude. I would tell the trainer privately before the next class how offended you were. Maybe the trainer just didn't realize how mean that was. If she is apologetic, then I would give the class another try. If not, I would ask for a refund and find a better trainer. Training your dog should be fun, not degrading. |

| Not only totally rude but also VERY unprofessional! I can't believe she would treat you like that! I love Joey's Mom's reply! I would probably not want to continue classes with her either but I think the best reaction would be just as Joey's Mom said -- confront her and make her detail WHY she would make a comment like that. My bet is she would be flustered as she would not have counted on anyone actually requiring justification and she would have to come up with something quick. If your dog was perfectly behaved on leash, you would probably not need her services! I want to take Annie in for puppy classes to to help with her on leash and obeying simple commands. I thought it might be easier in a group setting but if someone gave me attitude like that I would probably take it very personal. So thanks for the warning! Maybe if I know ahead of time it is possibility, it won't knock me for a loop if it happens. I doubt there would be 2 equally rude and unprofessional trainers out there though, would there?
