| Mixed feedback Ok, i am getting mixed feedback on what to do. Khloe is not yet home yet but when she does get to come home, is it best to get her a harness or a collar? I will be the only one that will be taking her out to potty and such, but didn't know what to do? Sorry, I am asking a lot of questions lately but I want to do everything right for her! Thanks

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I don't know who may have told you to use a collar with a yorkie, but you shouldn't ever use a collar for walking purposes with a yorkie. This breed is susceptible to collapsed trachea, and the use of a collar can apply too much pressure on their trachea. You're much safer to use a harness, then no pressure is on their neck region. I like Buddy Belt, Choke-free and Puppia style harnesses the best.

| Get a harness. A collar will be harsh and possibly dangerous on her fragile neck. I'm not sure how well this works but I heard that if you can't find a small enough harness for a puppy then a ferret harness will fit. Congrats on your new puppy!

| Always walk a Yorkie using a harness. Collars are fine for ID tags only (look into breakaway collars that come off when pressure is applied), but if a collar were to be used for walking on a leash, it would apply too much pressure to your baby's neck. Yorkies are prone to collapsing tracheas. Also, remember not to take your puppy out on walks or to pet stores until AFTER her last set of vaccinations. Levi only wears a collar if we are going to the vet, pet store, dog park, etc. His collar has an ID tag and his rabies tag. He is always walked on a leash attached to his harness.

| I totally agree about the harness. I got Belle a really cute little striped vest from Petco by pup crew. their little legs go in then it velcros across the back plus has a snap lock and the 2 D rings that the leash goes through. I've had 2 occasions where I had to do an emergency lift with Belle when another dog came out after her. It's easy to pull them up to you and safety. I keep her tags on it just in case. I know they come in really small sizes but the velcro lets them adjust. I got Belles at 12 weeks and she is 2 now and it still fits. |

| Thank you everyone for your replies, I think there are a lot of goofy people around my area. A few I have seen in the pet stores and such with collars and I ask them which are best and they say that collars are ok, but yet I knew that they are prone to easy collapsing traches, so why ? IDK But I just wanted to make sure that a harness is best. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, just want to do all my research first before buying anything

| What I do is a harness anytime when I am hooking the leash to her and she wears a collar all the time but just to hold her rabies tag and name tag with my cell number on it. You really dont want to hook a leash to the collar.

| Harness! My baby is still so small he's been using a ferret harness which works wonders for him since the others were always too big. But I also highly recommend Puppia harnesses, Oliver just got one for Christmas and he loves it!
