| "Tipping" the ears? I need advice! I don't know why but I'm obsessing over whether or not I should trim the fur on Princess Bun Bun's ears - I know it's traditional to "Tip" the ears. I have an appointment tomorrow morning at 10 with the groomer. My lil girl has rather LARGE ears and one is up and one is down. The "up one" looks funny trimmed - it's like a cone shape when her ear is up. It's weird looking and I don't like how her last "hair cut" turned out. SO MY QUESTION TO YOU IS: Do I give her a traditional Yorkie ear trim or leave them long or even grow them out to the length of her chin? I don't mind that one ear is up and one is down, but I'm thinking it might draw even more attention to it. I don't want her to look dorky, but I do like cute. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I think one up and one down can look adorable please show us a picture. I like terriers ears tipped, and it doesn't matter if the ear is up or down, but I just think they look cute that way. Tipping might help the droopy ear go up, if that's what you want. I think if you don't tip, it does give the illusion of a much bigger ear. Not that that's a bad thing for a pet, it's all a matter of personal preference for we pet owners. I just saw your album picture, you little girl's ears look gorgeous in that picture!

| AW! Thanks! I know it's silly, but it'll be a big change. I like to pet her soft long ears, but they do tend to get very oily primarily because I tend to have lotion on all the time in the winter... short trimmed ears ARE cute and you make a good point about the illusion of them being even bigger. I like that! Anyway, you've given me some courage. I'm uploading a CLOSE-UP as per your request. I love this forum - thanks! If I do it (Ah!) - I'll be sure to post the "after". |

| It finally worked! The pic uploaded. I had to make it my avatar, though. Uploading to my album was at a crawl speed. Can you see it full screen if you click it? |

If you resize your pictures before you upload, they will upload faster. Eight by ten is usally the biggest, six by eight is better.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | She's adorable! If you want to take some of the weight off her ears, you might look at Dexter's trim -- just search for one of Alana's videos of "Dexter's Ruff Life." The nice thing is that whatever you decide, your dog will be beautiful! |

| Aww, she is adorable!! I love her ears!! It is all a matter of preference and what you like. And you can always grow the hair back if you decide you don't like it tipped. She will be just as cute either way!! I personally prefer mine grown out. Yes it does make their ears look bigger but I just love that long flowing look. I do tip my boys' ears though as I consider it a more feminine look to have them grown out. Here's my girls with their hair grown out...

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Glad you were able to figure it out, she's beautiful. You know how some women can pull off some outfits where others could never do it, well your little girl is like that. Besides her name is Princess Bun Bun, wouldn't you have to rename her if you change her ears?

| Teppi's ears were like yours, 1 up & 1 down. I took her to the groomer the other day & she just trimmed her ears without asking. I'm OK with that because I was undecided. I guess she decided for me. lol I thought Teppi's ears were soft, adorable & I could grow them out if I wanted to. After about 2 days the other ear was up! At first I thought she kind of looked like a bat with her shaved ears lol but now I'm use to it. Either way doesn't matter. Just a personal preference. She'll still be your loving baby no matter what. I was just surprised that Teppi's went up as quick as it did. Another Yorkie parent told me after I got Teppi that if you weren't going to show them, why worry about the ears. Pam & Teppi

| Thank you for this! I wimped out and didn't do it. But she sure looks cute with her new cut! They made her eyes look really big. It's AWESOME! It's so neat how they can look like so many different versions of themselves with a simple trip to the groomers. I might look into a home groomer next time. I've also seen a truck that comes to your house and does Rekki energy healing and grooming for your dog - nice! What a pampered pooch... |
