I don't think that is real comparison. Breeding a bad genetic defect is an absolute -- of course no one should do that. Breeding other faults when you have a good reason to believe progeny will NOT have the fault, is case by case thing. We don't even have all the genetic explanations for all traits. So, there has to be some guesswork and personal experience outside of the allelle charts.

You say you'll take a curl to the hair over a bad genetic defect, and I guess my question is why take either.

You know I'd take curl over a genetic defect any day too, but that shouldn't be the question. JeanieK has said before she is trying to improve her line. Other things she has written about are that she wants to sells on limited registration, and she has also written threads about micro chipping her dogs so that she might possibly be notified if they ever go into rescue. These are all good things. As a member here, JeanieK writes on a variety of topics, from the parti threads to training, and just about every other forum. In other words she's very involved in different types of threads besides parti threads. I've gotten the idea she really is trying to improve as a breeder, and I thought she might possibly really like to know about the curl. If someone is telling her curly hair is a recessive trait and easy to eliminate, they are wrong. I would want to know if I were her. She can use that information however she likes.

Actually no, When I go to a show I might choose to bathe Radar the night before a show so therefore I wash him, blow dry him and then wrap him. The next morning we go to the show and I take out the wraps and flat iron. Now if I wash him the day of the show I wrap his head because his mustach and ear hair is to the floor and I wrap it to keep it from going in his mouth when I'm driving to the show and then after I show him back in wraps he goes for the next day.

Well let me rephrase LOL...yes the creases come out when you wash but like I stated above he goes back in wraps after the washing because I wrap his coat again to keep it clean so I dont' have to wash again the next day and then too keep the hair out of his mouth

Yes but I wash a day before show, wrap immediately once dry to keep clean, and iron in the morning before show.

Not that I feel that I owe anyone an explanation about anything, but here is a picture of one of the sires other offspring



I have read on this very forum, where show breeders have said they have bred nonstandard dogs, because they had other features that they were breeding for. Now I assume that they knew that some of the offspring would have the "nonstandard" traits, but they also hoped that at least one would carry the traits that they were breeding for and not have the non standard traits.

And Yes I was taken when I was sold the dog with the wavy hair. But he has a gorgeous face and a nice compact sturdy body. This is a learning process.

AMD aka Alyssa is doing an amazing job!! I remember when she emailed me and told me she finished her girl! She's got a good starting foundation in this breed! I'm so proud of Aylssa!!

Jeanie what do you consider him~golden, parti? He really reminds me of my Bogey with his coloring and I always considered him a mix since he is a rescue. The more that I see the Parti's the more I am left to wonder if that is really what my Bogey is with his totally blonde coloring.

I do appreciate your information. I have learned a great deal from YT and still learning. that is why, when I had a question, I posted it here, fully aware of what types of comments I might get.

It seems that there is still a question as to whether or not the wave or the straight is dominant.

I can tell you that this sire has produced more straight haired offspring than he has wavy haired ones.

Unfortunately every dog is nonstandard in some way- otherwise we'd have that "perfect" specimen. If only...
