You say you'll take a curl to the hair over a bad genetic defect, and I guess my question is why take either.

| Actually no, When I go to a show I might choose to bathe Radar the night before a show so therefore I wash him, blow dry him and then wrap him. The next morning we go to the show and I take out the wraps and flat iron. Now if I wash him the day of the show I wrap his head because his mustach and ear hair is to the floor and I wrap it to keep it from going in his mouth when I'm driving to the show and then after I show him back in wraps he goes for the next day. |

![]() I'd like to add that I am once again learning so much about recessive genes. Very interesting and informative thread!

| Not that I feel that I owe anyone an explanation about anything, but here is a picture of one of the sires other offspring ![]() I have read on this very forum, where show breeders have said they have bred nonstandard dogs, because they had other features that they were breeding for. Now I assume that they knew that some of the offspring would have the "nonstandard" traits, but they also hoped that at least one would carry the traits that they were breeding for and not have the non standard traits. And Yes I was taken when I was sold the dog with the wavy hair. But he has a gorgeous face and a nice compact sturdy body. This is a learning process. |

It seems that there is still a question as to whether or not the wave or the straight is dominant. I can tell you that this sire has produced more straight haired offspring than he has wavy haired ones.

![]() Unfortunately every dog is nonstandard in some way- otherwise we'd have that "perfect" specimen. If only...
