There are many people seeking an out of standard companion and thus there will always be yorkies that are too big. Unfortunately, it seems that the teeny tiny dogs have become way too popular and so we have the tiniest - previously unheard of - "tea cup" size dogs available now. If someone can offer a safe environment where the teeny dog can happily live - I don't see why it should concern anyone else if the dog is extremely small.

There's nothing wrong with people wanting a tiny, and if they understand the problems associated with them and can care for them safely, I say, "Go for it"! This is about breeders MARKETING tinies, and actually breeding for them. A good breeder occasionally has a tiny, and does not jack up the price and Market it! In fact, many good breeders actually place the tiny in a loving home for FREE. They don't sell heartache. So this is not about the dog, it's about the breeders.

Things don't add up~you cannot have a grooming salon in Hawaii and sell a $5,000 puppy in San Fransisco CA

I've gotta run the hubby is in the caqr waiting for me.

I noticed the grooming salon in Hawaii mentions puppies available at the end of the add. Groomer, breeder, daycare~sounds like a jack of all trades. I emailed so we'll see.

Well, it's been deleted now, so I have no proof, but I quoted you directly, and you also answered my post saying don't use your name. I'm not saying that you said people were jealous of those who owned tines, you seem to be saying people were jealous of parti's. My post was to say,

Can everything in marketing techniques even be feasibly put on that list??? I think there are just too many and eventually they would probably start to contradict one another. Although that list is a hoot to read!

I see that a lot of you here breed yorkies. I also see that you truly love the breed and all that goes along with that.. I completely respect you for that.

However, again, I am going to make you angry. I know a very good tiny breeder, and she only breeds for tiny yorkies. She loves her dogs. She takes a lot of care and spends a lot of money with vet care and keeping everything safe and the breed as best she can, like the ladies here. Just because she breeds tinies and does ask a lot for them doesn't mean she is not a good breeder. I take that as an insult to her.

Sure there are not good tiny breeders out there and there are breeders tha that have the standard that aren't good either.

What my question is....why all the fuss about the tiny yorkies? Why do you get so upset about it?

There must be some sort of a communication gap. I never said that you were advocating the unnatural downsizing of any breed, and I don't think I implied that.

This thread was in response to the posting that had SICK looking "tinies" or perhaps stuffed animals and a complete scam. There were red flags and marketing ploys all over the place that people need to be educated about avoiding.

I made the comment regarding the size of 5+ pounds not being big after your comment made them sound like they were huge. When in reality, there isn't much difference in size/portability between a 5 pound dog and a less than 5 pound. There can be a difference in health, but that really wasn't a factor in my comment. I just wanted to point out that I don't consider 5 pounds to be BIG by any means. They are still very tiny dogs even past the 5 pound marker.

I do not know the breeder you are referring too, so I'm not about to comment on that. Nor do I have evidence on how she markets to customers either. I don't feel I insulted said person in any way.

I dont think you are getting what people are saying nobody dislikes tinys just breeders that breed for them. Why should breeders be breeding for a dog that is more fragile and more susceptible to injuries and health problems. You even said your dog had lp which is very common in tinies and usually because of injury. Why should a breeder be breeding for one trait smallness and charging outrageous prices for them. Also I dont thiknk a tiny should be allowed to go to just any household because they are fragile but these breeders usually let them go to whoever can pay their outrageous price rather than to the most suitable home

If you had read my other post, I said that I did not consider 5-7lb dog being big either, just that I want a smaller one. I certainly never said that size is huge. I mentioned my 15# chihuahua is huge, for the breed.

A lot of us are against the breeding of tinies because the YTCA the mother club for the Yorkshire terrier and the protector of the breed says:

If you are interested in purchasing a tiny Yorkie, sometimes called a Teacup,
Micro Mini, Teeny, or any other name that means “extra small”, there are
several things you should consider. The YTCA’s Code of Ethics precludes the
use of the words “teacup”, “tiny specialists”, doll faced, or similar terminology
by its members, and for good reason.

All breeders may occasionally have an unusually small Yorkie (hopefully healthy),
though no responsible breeder breeds for this trait. Many breeders prefer a
general weight range of 4-7 pounds believing that size retains desired Toy
qualities while maintaining optimum health. The Yorkie Standard states weight
"must not exceed seven pounds" and as a prospective pet owner you should
realize that even at 7 pounds, the Yorkie is still a small dog. (Females weighing
less than 5 pounds are considered by most breeders to be unsuitable for breeding.)

Special circumstances often come with extra tiny dogs. They are extremely
susceptible to both hereditary and non-hereditary health problems, including

Small ones are more likely to have poor reactions to anesthesia and die from
it. Tiny dogs are more easily injured by falls, being stepped on and being
attacked by other dogs. These health problems nearly always result in
large veterinary bills.

Please take this into consideration and make purchasing a healthy pet your top
priority, not size. The “novelty” is certainly not worth the pain, heartbreak, or
extra expense. Remember, all Yorkies are comparatively small. The most
important thing is finding a healthy puppy that will grow into a healthy adult,
especially since you looking at an 11 to 15 year commitment with your Yorkie.

Most responsible breeders believe that it's just plain cruel to breed a dog under 5 pounds. The added weight of pregancy is dangerous, and hard on her joints. Just because you breed a tiny, it doesn't mean that you will produce a tiny. I always recommend buyers avoid "one trait" breeders.
