| Silky coat here we come I took a picture of Levi and his eyes are flashing green. So I guess this means he's going to have a silky coat. Yay!!! |

| I thought gold meant silky coat? I can't remember what color means what but there was a post about it awhile back. I have a silky coat and a cotton coat and it is the cotton coat that flashes green. The silky coated one is definitely "gold" in a camera's flash.

| Sorry -- green has always been for a silky coat and the reddish/orangish is cotton. Sometimes it is misleading with newer cameras that have built-in red eye prevention that may distort the natural eye shine. But you can use a flashlight on a dark night and shine directly in their eyes to see the eye shine too. There is a scientific reason behind it -- linked genetic traits.

| I'm still waiting on my one year old's coat... her eye's shine blue and so far only her head is silky and the rest of her is black/tan cotton puppy coat. As for my two year old Yorkie, her eyes shine back green and she has a light colored, beautiful silky coat! I wonder how much longer I have to wait for Olive's adult coat... it seems she gets a little lighter and softer all the time but I thought she would be in full adult coat by now! Good luck with your adorable little one! Silky coats are so beautiful |

ah, that/new camera may be it then. Or the eye flash thing doesn't always follow, one or the other. Of course, I'm assuming the 'silky coat' is in fact the long, flowing, straight hair, which my gold flashing Yorkie has (maybe all this time I just assumed incorrectly). As far as my cotton coat, I really don't know if she's a cotton coat per se, I've always kept her short because her hair is not "nice" --- I call her a cotton coat because her hair is definitely different from my one Yorkie with hair that is beautiful/traditional looking. So maybe my cotton coat is a "mix" of both and just flashes green. All very interesting to be sure!

| Now I really am confused. I used the camera phone, took pics (in the (near) dark) of the pups (who all have a long line of the silky nice coats on both the maternal & paternal side) and they flashed a greenish-blue, with one of them a more pronounced blue green. Their mama (with the long silky coat) stilled flash gold and the one I call a 'cotton coat' flashed kind of a green-gold (but definitely more gold). The article referenced a "red" eye but I didn't see where specifically talked about a "gold" eye. The way I read the article was though it was about texture it was more of them holding the pigment. Was that correct? So a blue/green is suppose to be the silky texture but moreso will hold the darker pigment...that's how I read it - let me know if I'm correct or not. The 'cotton coat' is darker overall than the silky (mama) in the saddle area, though since I put the adults on Royal Canin's "Beauty Care" they have really darkened up (noticeably enough the groomer thought I put dye on the one). Thanks.
