| Question about ears My Happy has a small smell to her ears and this reddish brown gunk inside. Is this normal or should I take her to the vet? Thanks

| I would definetely take her to the vet. Sounds like ear mites. I know Trixie (the previous yorkie we had) had a bad case of them and its simply treated by some drops given to you by the vet.

A little smell and some ear wax is normal all you have to do is take Happy to the vet to get his ears cleaned out. The smell can also be caused by to much hair in the ears which you can have plucked out by a groomer or you can buy the special powder to do it yourself.

| It will probably be an ear infection or ear mites. They will probably clean the ears for you and then have you buy a solution for follow-up. I clean my dog's ears every time they get a bath. I use VET Solutions ($8.00 bought at vet's office) which cleans, dries, acidifies, deodorizes and contains aloe vera. It seems expensive, but will last a VERY long time. Good luck and hope Happy is happy in no time! |

| Update Well come to find out Happy had a fungal ear infection. (Yeast infection of her ears) So one week of meds and she should be ok. But boy was I surprised when they weighed her and she was 3.9 lbs at 10 wks. I'm thinking she is going to be really big. Also vet wants me to take her off puppy food since it is higher in fat and switch her to adult weight mamagement food since she seems to be a little "chunky" for her height he said. She's only allowed 1 T of dry food 3 times a day to get her used to not gorging herself. Man what a piggy. But other than that no probs. He checked her for luxating patellas and he said she was good and had a great bite. So that made my day!!! Overall pretty happy with the new vet. Thanks everyone for your concern!! I appreciate that you guys are there to help us that sometimes don't know whats wrong and give advice! You all are great!

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Just saw this today and my first thought was a yeast infection. Rebel had one when I got him. Glad that your baby is okay. Won't take long with the medication and he'll be good as new...with fresh smelling ears!
