Collar help...

I will be getting a yorkie in a few weeks, and after reading all about how you shouldn't put collars on the dog, i'm not sure what to do! I will have to be training her to go potty outside, is it recommended to put a harness on every time we go out (which i want to do A LOT of course, to get her potty trained)? Just kinda seems like it would be a pain to put a harness on the dog every 30-60 minutes..or no? Please help me with what you guys think! I bought a collar and was planning on just attaching the leash for potty time she'd have a seperate harness for walking of course.

I wouldn't really. I'm guilty of doing it sometimes in the past for quick potty runs, but even Jackson, who is 15lbs and very sturdy, would gag at even a slight tug on the leash. Ever since he got out of a collar twice, I don't do it anymore. He has a really tiny neck even though he's a 'big' boy and somehow manages to slip out of collars if tugged on the right way. The Puppia harness we have is really easy take on/take off. Or sometimes I'll just leave the harness on him for 2-3 hours.

Nope! Always walk a Yorkie on a harness. It's not so much of a hassle to put on a harness. Especially once they are used to putting it on and taking it off. Levi knows exactly which leg to put through first (we use step-ins), so all I have to do at this point is hold it for him and snap it.

I'll leave his harness on for a few hours at a time, especially if we are running in and out of the house a lot that day. He has never seemed bothered by wearing his harness, and I do keep an ID tag on his harness. He only wears a collar if we are going out of the house for an extended period of time (his collar has another name tag and his rabies tag).

I agree! Especially if you're training a puppy you'll want NOT to attach the leash to a collar. Puppies don't understand and might be more interested in running off and playing. That means lots of tugging and that could hurt the new puppy.
