| My Yorkie lost a tooth, what should I do? She is nearly two years old and is missing an upper incisor. Does anyone have experience with this? Will she grow another or is it lost forever? All her teeth look very healthy to me, no brown spots or anything. I give her homemade soft food as well as regular kibble every day and occasional Greenies. She also chews rawhide strips, she loves 'em. I want her to live as long as possible so I am concerned that eating could become an issue one day if she has already lost a tooth. What do you think?

| Take her the vet, because INFECTIONS are common and serious...especially that close to the brain, get antibiotics. Do you know how it happened? You are not supposed to give Yorkies raw hide-I'm not entirely sure why tho...everyone on here swears by "bully sticks" if by soft food you mean wet food-ye wet food is not the best for teeth my Elvis was on wet food and junk kibble and his teeth at 2 years old needed a full scraping and the vet estimated he had the teeth of 6 year old already, really it depends on the type of kibble you feed too-Greenies are great I use them all the time! They still need cleanings, but at 2 years old you shouldn't have many tooth issues. Do you brush your Yorkie's teeth regularly? It could be a total freak thing too, happened to a cat I had as a child-he got it stuck on a toy flipped out and popped his tooth out, we took him the vet he got antibiotics and was fine, never had an issue despite missing and incisor, I imagine it's the same for cat's and dogs. |

| My dog Daisy lost about 4 teeth at around the same age. It wasn't due to anything but her poor breeding. For peace of mind, I'd have your vet take a look but it's probably nothing. Good oral hygiene is important for yorkies so brushing her teeth is a good idea if you don't already do this. Rawhides can have a lot of problems as can greenies so many of us here never feed these items to our yorkies. Many yorkie owners use bully sticks instead and feel they are safer. I no longer use them, but when I did, I bought them here: www.westbrookdog.com

| Apple lost one of her bottom, front teeth @ about a year old...I think she knocked it out, jumping up on my wooden computer chair ...I know how you feel, I'm still sick, about it, over a year later...By like others said, I'd have the vet check it out (I did), just to be sure it isn't an infection, of some sort... |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I had an older Yorkie rescue who had about 4 teeth total, and only one incisor, and he had no problem eating. I think for the most part he just swallowed his kibble. The vet said that's usually the case, and he hadn't seen a dog who had problems swallowing it. I was initially concerned because I was feeding Canidae back then, and the kibble wasn't tiny. But he always ate when I mixed it with a little canned or home-cooked. If it were to become a problem, you could always go to a high-quality canned food, but I wouldn't fret over it. As for why she lost the tooth at such a young age, I agree, I'd want to see a vet and make sure there's no infection. If it's a dental hygiene issue, you might consider brushing. I've had great luck with a finger brush and some poultry-flavored doggie toothpaste.
