| In-Home Pet Sitting This has been talked about before. I forget what the conclusion was though. How much would you pay per day (24 hour period) for somebody to come and watch one dog? What is the lowest amount that is reasonable to offer? What all did/do they do for your pups? Will they brush teeth and stuff (generally)? Ever had any problems? How did you find somebody to do this/how did you know they were trustworthy? (reviews? references?)? I had a tech willing to do it at her house, but Ellie's vet doesn't know if she does it anymore. So if not, I guess this is what we'll have to do. For those with special needs doggies, does it work out okay or do the sitters get nervous about all the "rules?" Boarding in a facility is not an option. I'm seeing this $50 a day thing. Is that normal?

We had our first overnight away from the dogs just last month. I had a girl that I have known since she was a baby (now she's 18) come stay at our house. I used to babysit her at my mom's daycare, then when she was old enough she worked there with me. She's a babysitter, and great with the kids. My dogs are my babies, and I trust her. She came over about 2pm, and we were home by 10am the next morning (we were planning on coming home around 2pm, but neither of us slept good, and missed our babies). We have 2 yorkies (and chinchillas, but she didn't have to do anything with them), and all she had to do was feed them dinner and breakfast, and take 1 of them for 2 short walks. She let them sleep with her in our bed too, which I like because they are used to sleeping with us. I also had written out very detailed instructions (it came to 3 pages ) and we texted a couple times so I knew how they were doing. I didn't ask her how much she charged, I just gave her $50. I had asked the boy's breeder if she could take them first, but she had puppies and was super busy. If I didn't have someone I trusted come stay, my second choice would have been to take them to a fellow YTer's house. If we go away for an actual vacation (I'd love to if we had the money), I would ask the breeder first. I would feel the safest about them staying there. I wish we had a section for people wanting to swap dog sitting. It would be great to know who is in your area. | |

| Yes the pricing is fair IMO. It's s little higher here. I generally have them make three day visits of 30-mins and then they sleep over. I hire only professional petsitters who are insured and bonded. I've been using persitters for about 8 years when I travel and it work out well - only minor problems over the years.

| I guess I'm just hesitating over pricing because it may be worth $50+, but she requires only about an hour of care a day (or less) unless they want to play. For 8 hours they will be sleepng and I don't care if they leave for most of the day. But when they are dealing with her, it is high stress. They will sit here on the internet for most of the day. I dunno. Maybe a friend of mine will do it. She is young though and I think it might overwhelm her.

| I petsit for a lot of people. I'm not bonded or insured, nor a professional company. I do it on the side while in college and have loads of good references and always give them my license to scan or do whatever they want with it, etc, so they have all my information to make them feel comfortable. I do daily dogwalking where I charge $10 per day for a 30 minute walk. But honestly, that's probably one of the lower prices here in this area. All that job entails is going into their house, leashing up the dog and taking them for a walk. When I do over-nights, generally speaking I get about $30 per night. With this one couple who has 2 Boxers, I get $50-$60 per night. I will occasionally have to give them a pill or something if necessary but I never have to walk them... just let them out in the yard multiple times during the day and feed them in the AM and PM. I go there at 8am, again at 3pm, and again from 8-10pm. Sometimes I sleep there, sometimes I don't. To be honest, I'd be really nervous with a dog with a ton of rules. Like, I wouldn't really want to brush a dogs teeth that wasn't my own. It's bad enough having to shove a big pill down a 100lb Boxers throat... that's special needs enough for me, LOL. But I take really good care of all the dogs I watch and I usually end up doing more than the owners even wanted me to.

| We'll probably have to find a friend to do it because $50 a night is just a lot. Worth it, but eh...we don't have that kinda money to burn, esp. when talking about several days... If they stayed here the whole time, they would get 23 hours to do whatever. It has to be someone who doesn't get nervous easily though. I mean, one wrong move when dealing with her food can cause vomiting. And one bite of something wrong can result in an emergency. Or we just take her with us so I don't have to think about somebody messing it up. lol

| I charge $30 a day, for inhome boarding, but I only do small dogs, and they must have a meet and greet, at my house, before the pet sit, to see if they get along w/my crew...They have the run of the house, a big back yard w/only supervised play...The yard is hawk/owl proof...If the parents want them walked, in addition to the home and yard, I walk them twice a day, as well...The bulk of my pet sitting is away, and I charge $20 a visit for once a day & $18 for a 2nd visit...or a third or fourth (I do have some older dogs that get 4 visits a day)...I am bonded, insured and cpr/first aid certified...I take care of dogs/cats/birds/fish/rabbits/gerbils and even one blind albino white frog, that I have to feed by hand lol...I spoil my little charges, like they were my own, and love them all to pieces |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | 50.00 is cheap. It might seem like a lot, but that person has to sleep outside of her home/bed, leave her animals, spouse etc. If they are like me, not get any rest. Not to mention our insurance expenses, fuel etc. My overnights are 65.00-75.00 and last 10 hours. I do this professionally and I do not include bathing, teeth brushing, etc. I will administer meds with no extra charge. My overnight stay includes a free mid day visit. (I make sure this is trip is convenient to my daily walks) For instance, I will go at 8pm and leave at 6 am. I will come back around noon for a potty break for free, then I will go back at 8pm and repeat. |
