There are a lot more differences than just size. Although, realistically speaking, a Silky is not "that" much bigger than the standard Yorkie. The standard size for a Silky is 9-11 lbs, and the Yorkie is under 7 lbs. Depending on the dog, a few extra pounds can look like a lot, or not. And, just like there are Yorkies bigger than their standard, there are Silkies smaller than their standard. The Silky is slightly longer than is tall so when looking at a Silky they would look more like a rectangle where the Yorkie is supposed to be square, equally tall as they are long. The Silky muzzle is a little longer than a Yorkie. Yorkie's hair can reach the floor, but a Silky's hair should not. Silkies are generally lighter in color than the Yorkie as well. I also think there are big differences in Yorkie eyes, vs. the Silky eyes. I personally think Silky eyes are a bit smaller and more almond shape, where the Yorkie eye is rounder. I too thought our Moka was a Silky. She is only 7lbs, btw. After trying to find another like her, and doing a lot of research on Silkies, I now believe she is half Yorkie. I have also been watching the shelters around here as Silkies are pretty popular here, and they rarely advertise a dog as being Silky. They almost always call them Yorkies even when I think they look more Silky to me. Some people say that puppy mills use a Silky mom because they are bigger and can have more puppies, and I think that is what happened with my Moka.

Anyways, Jackson fits EVERY Silky description. He's longer than he his tall, his face is like a Silky (snout is longer, etc), he's more muscular built, and all the temperament descriptions of a Silky match him. My aunt bought a Silky/Yorkie mix from a pet store

| And this is my Moka. She came with "papers" stating she is silky! Of course, they are not AKC, so who knows. Since Silkies are popular here, that's probably just what they called her to be more marketable. Anyways, she has more Yorkie coloring, a short muzzle with a Yorkie face, Silky ears, and Silky Body. When I was searching another Silky and visiting breeders, I never once came across a Silky breeder with anything that resembled Moka, but I do see Yorkies posted here that have quite a few similarities.

| Exactly! Not breeding to standard is a big part of it. I realize too, that the Silky does have a big Yorkie influence in their genetics, but also that a breed standard has been set. You stated your breeder was just two dogs that got together, and I highly doubt Moka's breeder was bettering any breed standard, so there's our answer. LOL. We love them just the same though don't we....
