| New Member Hello my name is Justin and im new to this forum. I have owned two yorkies in my lifetime and they have brought me tons of happiness. Unfortunately we lost a yorkie last December. The cause was unknown and the vet was in tears. My main reason for joining this forum is because my wife and I just got another Yorkie about 5 weeks ago and at the age of 9 weeks we took him to get his second set of puppy shots. The breeder had already taken him for his first set. Unfortunately we have had complications after the second set. Choowie, now seems to have neurological issues. He spins in place constantly and only clockwise. He doesnt seem to be in any pain and he eats fine. He spins so much he has a hard time moving around the house. Has anyone else experienced anything similiar to this after vaccinations. I can move this to another section after this intro. Thanks. P.S. The vet also told us he could use Frontline and they supplied it for us. He was 1.8 pounds when the vet supplied and said it was ok. |

Does he walk normally at anytime? If the spinning is constant, I suggest that you find another vet, a specialist and contact the breeder. I do hope that you had a guarantee.

First off at 9 weeks old your puppy is too young to get its second set of shots, it should have only been getting the first. Second your puppy is no where near big enough for Frontline, my vet told me that the pup has to weigh at least 2kg before Frontline can be given.

| Hi and Welcome to YT! Your puppy needs to go ASAP to a Neurologist. His immune system has been overloaded by the vaccinations and he needs immediate treatment. This is an emergency.

| Thank you so much for your concern. We are calling another vet ASAP. We had to go out of town and the pup was well taken care of. We are highly disappointed at our current vet and will be following up on the forums promptly. As for the pup he is still spinning but walking straight at times. We are seeing a little bit of sensitivity to biting on things like his chew toys. We have softened his food ..this is a reputable breeder and we thought we made the right decision..I will keep you all updated on little choowie. There was no guarantee since it was a friend of my mother in law and she doesnt do this for a living. She has bred multiple times with no complaints. (Around this town you hear everything. Small Town) The Dad was AKC and the mom was CKC registered all with paperwork. Again thank you so much for your concern and your help. |

| Choowie! We have beeen thru so much in the past week but I have to say choowie is doing great. After a little force feeding over the weekend. A pre food bloodtest and post food bloodtest. (which the results were just fine, no liver shunts, he is just a little anemic.) Then on Saturday night he pepped up and starting eating like crazy. He has been a normal puppy since then. I switched up his diet and got some Nutrical and Hill's science diet and he loves it. He still spins but it seems he is straightening out and only does it when hes really excited. He is fattening up a little bit too . I am so relieved that he is doing well but I understand that these problems can come back. We are monitoring him closely and showing him lots of love. Thank you for all your support! |

| I still need to suggest that you take him to a neurologist, or a vet that specializes (or owns) small dogs (or better, Yorkies). Spinning is not a normal behavior, and is an indication of hydrocephalus, which can be caused by many things. An x-ray could confirm/ rule out this and also check his spine and neck for any congenital defects, or at least indicate the need for further investigation. There are medications that he can take that will help resolve this behavior. How old is he now? Bile Acid tests aren't really reliable in young puppies. I believe some are done routinely at 16 weeks (anyone correct me here) and later. Was any other bloodwork done? (looking for basis chemistries: esp. ALT) Just for some background: How old was he when he was given his first set of vaccines? What exactly did the breeder give him? And he was 9 weeks when he got the second set? And what specifically was he given? You have the option to share with us or not... I'm not trying to diagnose or be overly nosey... but I strongly feel that you need to discuss all this with a vet that is experienced with Yorkies, and with vaccine reactions. I also feel very strongly and am urging you to get his complete history together and have further testing done to resolve his circling behavior before his 3rd set of vaccines is given. If this is in any way resultant from the vaccines, continuing his vaccination schedule could be extremely detrimental to his health. I realize many people believe that vaccinations are a safe routine done with dogs and most times there are no problems. But when there is a questionable reaction, further investigation is needed for the few pups that do experience problems. Also special care must be given throughout the life of these pups, as their bodies can be reactive to other medications as well, so any necessary medical treatment will need to be done keeping this in mind. It may be best to get him on a minimal vaccination protocol (like the protocol suggested by Dr Dodds), and under no circumstances allow him to get any vaccines done with the Rabies vaccines (separate then by 3-4 weeks to allow his body to properly process and recover in between) CANINE VACCINATION PROTOCOL – 2010 MINIMAL VACCINE USE W. Jean Dodds, DVM Note: The following vaccine protocol is offered for those dogs where minimal vaccinations are advisable or desirable. The schedule is one I recommend and should not interpreted to mean that other protocols recommended by a veterinarian would be less satisfactory. It's a matter of professional judgment and choice. Age of Pups Vaccine Type 9 - 10 weeks 14 weeks 16 -18 weeks (optional) 20 weeks or older, if allowable by law 1 year 1 year Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV (e.g. Intervet Progard Puppy DPV) Same as above Same as above (optional) Rabies Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV Rabies, killed 3-year product (give 3-4 weeks apart from distemper/parvovirus booster) Perform vaccine antibody titers for distemper and parvovirus every three years thereafter, or more often, if desired. Vaccinate for rabies virus according to the law, except where circumstances indicate that a written waiver needs to be obtained from the primary care veterinarian. In that case, a rabies antibody titer can also be performed to accompany the waiver request. http://www.dogs4dogs.com/images/arro...l_edited-4.jpg Purchase a DVD of Dr. Dodds speaking at the 2010 Safer Pet Vaccination and Health Care Seminar. She spoke for more than 2 hours and answered questions on vaccination safety and managing and avoiding adverse reactions. Sign up for more information on the DVD and Program Guide at www.dogs4dogs.com/saferpet All proceeds above cost benefit the RabiesChallengeFund study of the rabies vaccine. Dr. Dodds does diagnostic testing, including titer testing, at Hemopet.org

| The symptoms you describe here are of some serious conditions, that of witch could get worse with time & age. If GME it will get worse and I would NOT vaccinate again till this is ruled out. Also Chiari and AAI have these same symptoms and if your pup has either one of these things especially AAI, one wrong move and it could kill him. A simple x-ray could detect AAI |
