| One Year Ago... This weekend marks the one year anniversary of Roxie coming into our lives. Where does the time go? When I first met her I didn't know if I was going to keep her or not. I had never had a dog before, and I was nervous about the responsibility. DBF was REALLY not crazy about the idea (he would rather have a cat), and it took him a while to warm up her. I have to say that having Roxie has changed me for the better. We've had our ups and downs, but I wouldn't change a thing. I love her to pieces and now can't imagine life without her. She's also radically changed my views on pet ownership, and on animals in general. I'm so glad I took that chance and let this little furbaby into my life!

| Happy anniversary...your girl is precious. And I do have to agree...I NEVER thought I'd want a dog, much less one in the house (even though my mom had poodles when I was growing up, and I got a cocker spaniel in high school). But when I was given a scotty from a friend's aunt who had several dogs, my life was forever changed. Unfortunately it was not meant to be for Murphy the scotty to stay with me (depression from going to a house FULL of dogs, to mine with none...he went back to the aunt and is as happy as ever!), BUT this forever changed me. From then on I knew I was meant to have a little furbaby in my home. I love my Sophie so much and can't imagine life without her!!! Thanks to little Murphy for opening my eyes!

I feel the same way about having my dog Daisy - I am forever changed because of her and am a better person because of her. (She's been a sick dog, and I've had to meet her challenges and act for her not myself all these years). I think it is fantastic that you've radically changed your views on pet ownership and on animals in general - I wish more people were like you. Owning a dog means more than loving it. We owe it to the animal to do right by it, to protect it's rights, and to put its interests above our own when faced with difficult decisions. Yes you will have your ups and downs - it goes with the territory - but it sounds to me like you will be ready to act as Roxie's voice when she needs you to. You sound like you are a wonderful owner just by the statements you made in your post.
