I had never had a dog before, and I was nervous about the responsibility. DBF was REALLY not crazy about the idea (he would rather have a cat), and it took him a while to warm up her. I have to say that having Roxie has changed me for the better. We've had our ups and downs, but I wouldn't change a thing. I love her to pieces and now can't imagine life without her. She's also radically changed my views on pet ownership, and on animals in general.
I'm so glad I took that chance and let this little furbaby into my life! :aimeeyork | The time sure does fly! It seems like just yesterday I brought home my little bundles of fur and they just turned 10 - it warms my heart and freaks me out at the same time.
I feel the same way about having my dog Daisy - I am forever changed because of her and am a better person because of her. (She's been a sick dog, and I've had to meet her challenges and act for her not myself all these years).
I think it is fantastic that you've radically changed your views on pet ownership and on animals in general - I wish more people were like you.
Owning a dog means more than loving it.
We owe it to the animal to do right by it, to protect it's rights, and to put its interests above our own when faced with difficult decisions. Yes you will have your ups and downs - it goes with the territory - but it sounds to me like you will be ready to act as Roxie's voice when she needs you to. You sound like you are a wonderful owner just by the statements you made in your post. |
