| For Working Stiffs.... I am in the research phase in purchasing a beautifuk Yorkie baby... One thing that I am still having some difficulty with those early puppy days... I want to adopt a young puppy (12 weeks+) and am wondering about those folks on here who, like me, work 40 hours a week... How do you handle things... My early game plan would be to take some time off those first few days with puppy... However, for someone like me who really cannot take much time off (as it is frowned upon...) I do have someone who would be avaiallbe to help check on puppy during the day... But I would love to hear from some of you who are out of the house for a number of hours during the day... |

| HI, I too work a long week (35 hours) and have since I've had my baby. When I first got her I was off, or someone was the first week she was home. She was also only 8 weeks old. I would play with her in the morning and let her run around while i was getting ready for work and then i would put her in her playpen...a little while later, me or someone else would take her out for a bit, play with her some more and then she woild be back in the playpen again...this was done all day until i got home and took her out for the night until it was time for bed. I have always set a strict bedtime for her, unless of course we have company or we have been out all day...then mommy caves and lets her stay up late ....this has seemed to work for us and she is used to being in her playpen all day now. As she gets a little older and I can trust her more not to destroy the house when I am gone, I will let her have run of the house, until then she is content in her playpen. Make sure though that it is something like a playpen and not a crate for all that time, because there is very little room in a crate for that long a period of time anyway unless it is their bedtime. Hope all goes well in your search for a pup and believe me there are other Yorkie parents on here that work all day. As long as u love your baby and show them attention....they will adjust to your situation. Hope all goes well!!!!

| I am writing from my work computer right now I work MWF full time (9-5) and go to school T&R from 8-1. It's difficult to leave Stewie. I skipped classes the day I got him and try to cut out of work a little early if I can. My brother has been checking on him when he gets out of school around 2. My older brother is doing construction on our basement, so he plays with Stewie when he's around and keeps an eye on him while he's working. I think about him all day and wonder if he's crying or sleeping or what. Right now, he is in a wire/metal cage that's about 5' x 4'. Once he gets a bit older I plan to let him roam around a bit more while I'm gone. I actually had a severe anxiety attack earlier this week because I was worried about him while I was at work. He's paper trained right now, but he chews on everything. I don't want him to destroy anything or hurt himself while I'm away. I spend a lot of time with him when I get home and allow him to sleep with me, so I feel that he is happy. The weekends are much easier. Good luck with finding a puppy.

| How is sleeping with the pup at night? Is he well behaved? Does he wake you when he has to go? |

| He has a cough so he wakes me up sometimes. Last night he only woke me once hacking because he is on cough meds from the vet. At first it was hard sleeping with him when he was getting adjusted to my home, but now its MUCH better. I have his little puppy bed on top of my bed and he stays in there. If he comes to lie on top of me, I just gently put him back in it. I make sure he goes before we go to sleep and immediately when I wake up I put him on his puppy pad. I think that he's very well behaved for a puppy. He chews quite a bit, but I just try to quickly replace whatever he's chewing with one of his toys. He's getting the hang of it. It is literally like having a baby. Always keeping one eye on them!
