| Please help. I rescued my yorkie (Sophie) in Feb of 2010. She came from a backyard breeder who kept her in a kennel all the time. I am new to yorkies and to the forum. She has turned out to be a great, healthy dog except for a few things. She will potty outside if I take her out every 2-3 hours when Im home or when im gone she will hold it up to 7 hrs so far. But when Im home she will poop on my chair or right in front of the door. I have put a bell at the door and ring it everytime I take her out but she still will not tell me when she has to go. The other problem is that because she was kept in a kennel her first 7 months of life she is not social. She is great with me and my husband and 2 kids (8 & 13) but when other people come over she barks and carries on and jumps and nipps them and bits their ankles. Kids she will do the same and grab onto their shirts and not let go. I take her every where I can get away with it but it still hasnt help. In the stores and stuff she just shakes sometimes she gets so nervous she pees and poops. I want her to be friendly. I do not baby her and tell her no I do not pick her up. I tell the person she is barking at to just pick her up and when they do that she runs away in fear but always come back to do again. How can I socialize her and make her freiendly. Please help these 2 things are really getting in my way of bonding with her. Also any help with training for basic things like come and sit would be great to. |

| to YT! just my opinion but I would focus on one trait you want to change at a time and give her lots and lots of positive reinforcement! Also try the training forum so help get visibility to your question. I am sure you will get all kinds of more useful information here. Best of luck to you and Sophie! Peggy, Monkey & Maddie

| I also have rescue yorkie and I can stop her from barking by shaking a tin can with some rocks in it. I hate it because it scares her a little bit, but it does "jar" her out of it (pun intended!). HTH, Lisa |

| I am still having issues with my 8 month old in regards to the pottying as well. The one thing that I have found that has really helped has been crating and tethering. The only time he has free roam is immediately after he has peed and pooped. Otherwise he is in his crate or tethered to me. This way there are absolutely no accidents. I also found that when he does have an accident it is always within the same 10 foot area. I was advised by a trainer to totally gate (or cover with boxes ) that area. I have also washed my floor with Natures Miracle and used one of those Ultra Violet lights in the dark to make sure I have gotten rid of any remaining stains. My little guy also never lets me know when he has to go out. I am also thinking of trying to teach him to use bells. |
