A long time ago I rented an apartment and there were roaches in there. Totally disgusting!! I have never heard of a roach eat through plastic and more than likely since you saw a mouse in the laundry area...it was a mouse. They can get in the most little places. Roaches also don't have droppings as big as a mouse dropping. Your landlord needs to take care of the mouse problem.

Yeah the mouse problem is a work in progress. She told one of the other owners today, and they are baiting. I'm going to watch my apartment like a hawk. Make sure I don't see anything. (the droppings I saw were super small, like it almost looked like dirt... that's why I think they're roach droppings).

Now what about Harley, if there are mice in the apartment, and lets hope this is not the case, but if there are mice, will they hurt Harley?

If the droppings look that small they are most likely from the roaches. The whole complex will need to be treated at one time I would think. All condos at the same time. If this were a house I would say to use the spray bombs and believe me that would take care of any insect...but if all the units have the problem the insects will come back again into your condo. This is what happened in my apartment. I could keep the place clean...tupperware and whatever for my food...if the other tenants don't comply it's useless.

Yeah I thought they were the roaches'... to bring you up to speed with what happened. There was a huge infestation in my old building. We took loads of precautions to make sure we didn't bring them with... but we've seen a few in the new place, so the bait was a precaution to assure it didn't spread, we don't want to give this awful gift to our neighbours. While we wanted to spray, exterminators in this city wont, unless it's a dire situation. So bait is all they'll give, but they guarantee their work for 3 months. They'll come back if it gets worse.

This mouse thing is new... it's not something I thought I'd run into, cause they assured me that they haven't had mice in a long time. So that just sucks. The landlord is going to look after it.

I'm just stressed. I'm sure the cockroaches will die soon, with all the bait that we put in the place. I've been going through the place assuring that all the food is sealed in containers. To make sure they don't get into my food, I want them to want to eat the bait... and DIE!!!! lol

I am feeling your frustration. Living in Florida is a constant battle.
I put most of our bread in the freezer and just take out a few slices to defrost in toaster(clean constantly) or micro.,I have never seen them go thru plastic bags - but if they are starting to get hungry....
Have you tupperwared your soap, handcream etc, they will eat that when you thwart them in the kitchen.Clean under refrig and stove if they haven't been moved recently.You are right to direct them to the bait the only way they eat it is if there is nothing else. Good Luck! you are doing a great job and will prevail!

It was a FREAKIN mouse!!!! I just saw the darn thing run across my kitchen floor. YUCK! Now I'm really worried that the mouse may have something to do with what made Harley sick, obviously we have no way of knowing... but YUCK!

And honestly Harley is soooo passive, I really don't think he'd bark if a mouse walked right by him.. god I hope it isn't attracted to his food dish. With Harley being on his rice diet as perscribed by the vet I've been cleaning his dish out every hour, and giving him small and frequent meals. Maybe I'll have to start doing that so that there isn't excessive food out in his room.

You can buy glue traps - the one's with the really goopy stuff in a tray. You can place them behind fridge or any furniture that Harley cannot get behind. They'll stick to those. I put them in my garage every year about this time to keep them at bay.

Ick. I'll have to talk to the pest control people, I guess the building has already had pest control into the basement to bait. So god knows.

The chewing through bags has to be mice. I have 11 acres here, and several barns...I can not get rid of the mice. I have a pest control service ever 3 weeks to keep them under control. I find my flour, sugar...anything in bags chewed through. It is horrible.

If you don't like the idea of finding a dead mouse, there are humane traps available. I don't know how well they work but you wouldn't have to worry about Harley getting into poison or whatever. Just a thought.
