I am feeling your frustration. Living in Florida is a constant battle.
I put most of our bread in the freezer and just take out a few slices to defrost in toaster(clean constantly) or micro.,I have never seen them go thru plastic bags - but if they are starting to get hungry....
Have you tupperwared your soap, handcream etc, they will eat that when you thwart them in the kitchen.Clean under refrig and stove if they haven't been moved recently.You are right to direct them to the bait the only way they eat it is if there is nothing else.
