| ![]() I just found that the neighbors big dogs are digging a hole from their side to ours under the privacy fence. It is big enough for my dogs to get under but not big enough for theirs (maybe their head). In fact, I am surprised that my dogs have not gone missing already tonight and they are fascinated by it. I mowed just last night and it was not there! I would have found it. I put two big pieces of firewood over it to temporarily cover it, but now what do I do? I feel like my whole sense of security has been jeopardized. They do not seem like the kind of people to really fix it right. So, how do you fix a hole from a digger to stop them? Fresh dirt is just going to be soft enough to redig. My dh is going to be sooooooo mad! Of course, you can imagine all the terrible thoughts going through my mind right now.... I don't think the dogs are aggressive, but that is not a chance I am willing to take. I also don't think their back yard is as secure as we keep ours should mine get under it. But, obviously it doesn't matter how secure we keep ours if our neighbors are neglectful. 10 years living here, and this is the first issue like this to ever come up. They have unusual schedules and are hard to catch. So, how do I fix this hole? Cement? I hate that their dogs has just cause me to change my way of life. Uggggg. I HATE confrontations.

| ![]() If you wanted to fix it without talking to them I'd put rocks or something in it. I wound up putting lattice all along the perimeter of our privacy fence and digging it a few inches into the ground. If your neighbors dogs aren't huge you could try that too. I would mention to your neighbors the hole out of concern for both your dogs. You could say that sometimes you leave your gate open and you don't want their dogs to get through the hole and out your door. If they're good neighbors they'll fix it and appreciate your concern. In the meantime you could get one of those steaks you put in the ground and only let him out on that. |

| ![]() Thank you Banditsocks, rocks are a great idea. It is not that I don't think they will be open to fixing it, it is more that I don't see them home until late at night to talk to them. I don't think they would be opposed to us doing what we need to do to keep both sides safe untilt they have a chance to fix it from their side either, I am just not sure how to fill in a hole because I think they will just dig out fresh dirt if that was all I used. Rocks might work though.

| ![]() Does your neighborhood have a HOA? Rocks may be a good idea for this hole, but what about when they dig another hole that goes unnoticed. You may not be so lucky next time. The lattice buried deep along the fence may be a good idea.

| ![]() That happens all the time here, too. But, we are lucky that our neighbor is always trying to fix the holes. We throw rocks or wood down to keep them from scooting under before the holes are fixed.

| ![]() My daughter has a large dog. They live in a small town with a fence between them and their neighbors which have like 4 dogs of medium size. The neighbors dogs had started this digging thing and was getting out. The their owner ran a low voltage hot wire along their side of the fence, he did tell my daughter because her dog could put her nose thru the fence. Apparently his dogs haven't gotten out since. Just an idea for the neighbors or you. |

| ![]() Perfect! I knew you would have some ideas. I love this idea. I will see what DH thinks about it, but I think he will like this too. Thanks for the help.

| ![]() Bricks would also work. Maybe even railroad ties along the bottom of the fence. Keep those babies safe!! ![]()

| ![]() Fill the hole up with hot pepper. They won't keep digging for long. |

| ![]() Really? Like cayenne pepper? Keep in mind, my dogs sniff around this area too (they just don't dig......yet). Will it hurt them?

| ![]() Theres some great ideas that I will keep in mind for myself as well. We have about a 5 foot privacy fence around our yard and on two sides of the fence the wood was not close enough so my yorkies were getting out. Both sides have small dogs. The one side though which is my neighbor has two small dashunds. Now not only did I want to keep mine in but one of their dashunds seems VERY agressive. I put chicken wire all long the fence in my yard to keep them out and mine in. Their dashund bites and attacks the chickwire. It is actually scarey because she looks as if she will bite your hand off if you put it near the fence. I was worried she would bite one of my dogs on the face. Usually if I know their dogs are out in the yard ( because they are always at my fence barking) I don't let my dogs out. I wait until they are in. |

| ![]() In my opinion, I think bricks are the best idea. I did that in my yard and also put a lattace deep into the ground around the fence. So far so good. |
