Default So annoyed

So Peanut's Best friend came over yesterday, Todd he is a pom/yorkie mix. My friend and I wanted to take the boys for a nice walk... Well we were minding our own and we came to the corner of a walkway where their is a signle (on a busy street) and we had to cross so we pushed the button, Well standing there was a guy and his... Yes pit bull.

So I stand way over out of the way bc this pit bull (of course) was fixating (sp) on the boys.. Well once I see that and see how un trained this pit is and how untrained the owner is we pick up our dogs, the guy says (of course) she is real nice, she plays with a mini pin... I said well I feel more comfortable holding my dog. Also this whole time the dog was pulling the leash to try to get to our dogs.. and the dog wasnt even on a harness.. I am thinkin at anytime this dog is going to get loose..

So the light came and I told him to go in front of us, he said ok.We waited about 5 mins thinking he would be wayyy down the road by then we start walking and I see the pit bull just stopped sitting on the grass trying to look for us.. At this point I am getting upset and annoyed that this guy cant not train his dog, has no control over his dog, and just doesnt care about anything. The pit bull sees us and starts trying to leap towards us Luckyly we were able to go down to the pond and get away from them. We stayed at the pond for about 15 mins then I peeked to see where he was and I couldnt see him.. So we start walking again..

THEN.. we come to this bridge and it has a place where you can sit and guess who is sitting there!! YES I was so shocked, like what is this guy trying to do... EGHHHH!! I was so livid at this point I grabbed pnut and my friend grabbed todd and we crossed the street!!

Man I couldnt believe all this, I came home and told DH and he was like " see this is why I dont want you walking by yourself.... That guy could have hurt you or the dog could have hurt the boys... etc etc..

You know I have only seen 3 pit bulls that I have liked and that was bc they had wonderful owners that trained them! I am so sick of people buyin this breed and not being responisble!!

I needed to vent. Thanks for reading!

I live in NYC and anytime I see one I pick Keoki up because I just can't trust another dog or their owner 100 percent. My baby is the most important thing to me so if I offend people I really could care less. I know a great man that lives in my neighborhood who's pits passed ( from old age) so he rescued a new one- very sweet loving dog- and this owner is responsible but I was with Keoki and picked him up and as I did the dog growled and lunged- the man put him in check but I was shaking- and that is not the first time this has happened. I have friends that have great Pits and I have know a few great Pits but around my furbaby no chance- I'm picking him up. That's why I don't text ot talk on my cell phone when I'm walking Keoki so I can be present in case anything happens. I am so happy that you and your girlfriend were aware. I'm sorry your walk was ruined by some jerk that couldn't take responsibility for his dog or respect your concerns but you so did the right thing by staying away.

Thanks for understanding.. I don't trust any dog, that I don't know. And even if I know the dog I am cautious

My sister in law has a pit bull 2 of them. They are really sweet dogs and rasied really well, and well mannered. When the family gets together I always have pnut and she has duke and zeues.. The parents have a big back yard, when the dogs are there I will not let pnut off his leash, when I walk him around the pits he is on his leash right next to me, I trust the dogs to an extent.

It only takes a flash second. And by that time its probably too late. Peanut is un-replaceable. I would never forgive myself if something that could have been prevented and wasnt happened to him.

We have several pits in my building... most of them are pretty well trained, especially the one that lives on my floor. but I'm moving tomorrow, I'm really relieved to be away from them... there are just WAY too many in our building.

Did the man have his put bull off the lead? Maybe he just wanted to go for a walk with his dog the same as you did? I can totally understand your fustration and picking your boys up because i would be the same. As far as the dog not being trained, alot of doggies pull on the lead because they are excited about seeing people or other dogs. Fair enough the pitbull has a terrible name for attacking dog and its an idea to always be safe than sorry but unless his dog was running around off the lead then i dont see what he has done wrong? Maybe his dog loves dogs and was just was excited to see them?

I am sorry i really dont mean to be sticking up for him but maybe he just wanted to walk his dog too because he had every right to be there just like you did.

Glad your little boys are ok tho, sounds like a lovely place you went for a walk xxxx

I agree. We have a lot of different breeds of dogs in our neighborhood and whenever I walk Fynn, I'm just cautious of them.

I mean, the other people walking their dogs have the same right to be out with them that I have with Fynn. Just because the guy was walking his Pit on the same route you were walking Peanut and Todd doesn't mean he was doing it to be rude or spiteful.

It could just as easily have been another small dog that attacked. It doesn't have to be a big one to do damage.

Fynnlie's best friend is a Collie/Lab mix. Chai is massive compared to Fynnlie but I trust her and Deb - her 'owner' - completely.

I don't mean to be offensive or make you upset, I'm just saying that it's not only Pits that are dangerous. If I had been in your place and the guy and his dog were making me uncomfortable, I'd have picked Fynn up, too and been on my way.

Agree 100%. You definitely did the right thing by picking up your little guy...but this is wise in any situation, regardless of the size or breed of other dog. Also not defending anyone, but maybe that guy with the pit bull was thinking to himself "oh man, I thought I got away from them" ... Maybe his pit was just curious and interested in meeting the boys.

I love all a dogs but I also watch all dogs around our little ones. We decided not to take any chances so we bought a zapper to carry with us - even my hubby carries it. Something about Yorkies triggers other dogs to "want" them. lol! The one we have is only as big as a cigarette box but has the power to take down a 150 pd man (pit bull). My daughter has one that looks like a baton (mini bat) which is nice if you want to keep people at arms length. Something to look into.

Totally agree.

By your post, I didn't see once where the guy was rude to you, or where the dog was aggressive, or off lead. It sounded like he was just trying to walk his dog, just like you guys. It's inevitable to run into each other if you are both taking a walk at the same time, in the same neighborhoods, etc.

If you took a poll here on YT with how many Yorkies pull their owners like sled dogs or run/walk way ahead, I can bet you 85% of this board have Yorkies like that. I read so many posts of people who can't control their Yorkies (whether it be barking, being mean to other dogs, leash pulling, etc) but it's looked at as okay simply because they're small. I don't really think it's acceptable either way.

On the other end of the spectrum, I think as a Pit Bull owner, you need to be extra diligent in training your dog. Because Pittie's ARE a strong willed breed, both mentally and physically. They are known for leash pulling simply because they are so excitable. I think as a responsible Pit owner, you should take EVERY precaution when it comes to letting people in the public view your dog as a good canine citizen and help give them a good name.

Basically, he wasn't straight up rude to you. He could have told you "no, I will not walk ahead of you, this is a free world, and you don't own it", LOL or something rude. He obliged to your request and respected that you picked up your dog and wasn't rude about it. I guess I just don't see the problem.

Ok I'm not oblivious, I know when a dog is aggressive. I seen how the dog was standing, how he had his tail, how is was fixating on the dogs. I also saw how the owner didnt react to his pit bull fixating on my dog. I also saw the owner have no corrections for that behavior. No training what so ever.

I and my friend noticed how the guy was "waiting for us" and kept looking back to see where we were. I am not one of those people who are prejudice on bigger dogs, and the pit bulls. But I know what I see. I am not sure what that guy was up to but I didnt like what he was doing. I find it very rude. Then to tell me your dog is nice, when I see the dog drooling over pnut?? I know for a fact if that guy let the leash go that dog would have hurt pnut.

"As far as the dog not being trained, alot of doggies pull on the lead because they are excited about seeing people " LOL NOT THE CASE.

Just a note. when someone shares a story, dont attack them and try to think of other reason's or come up with your own ideas to what was going on. I felt tottaly attacked here. Unless you were there and KNOW what happened...

I think the guy was just trying unsuccessfully to get into a conversation with you. Or he was pretending you were stalking him. Guys do strange things.

I would have done the exact same thing as you.

I was not attacking you at all. I am sorry if you felt like i was, i didnt mean to make you feel like that. I just seen a different side to your story. I didnt say you was wrong for picking up your dog because i would have done the same. Just thought he might have been walking his dog too the same as yourself which i didnt see a problem with, sorry if i have upset you.

Have a nice day xxxxx
