| Mouth/Jaw/tounge problems?? not sure NEED HELP. My yorkie was playing with my mom the other day...she was given him this wooden toy..and then she took it away and he just started bitting her hands..when he suddenly stopped and started twirling his tounge around..it seemed as if he had something in his mouth..but what i noticed more was that he kept moving his tounge alot. Later on he ate his food...but then when tried to give me a kiss...he didn't stick his tounge out all the way...it seemed like he couldn't. When he tried to drink water....he also didn't stick his tounge out normally. I took him to the vet....he looked in his mouth...and my doggie actually was panting so it seemed like he was using his tounge normally..and the vet said...he could bitten his tounge...and to just give him some time to heal on it's own. Now, he doesn't seem to be twirling his tounge..but I can notice that when he is about to lay down...he holds his head up and slowing lays it down....and even when he goes up the stairs..he is very careful and I notice he holds his head up gently. I tried feeding him...today and he doesn't want to eat..and when I put a piece of his food in his mouth he just holds it there and then spits it out. He also tried to drink water and took 2 sips and stopped. I don't know what he could have.....i don't know if it's his tounge, his jaw....and I don't understand how he was playing with my mom and all of a sudden he's going thru this..... ...has anyone experienced something similar or can someone give me feedback.....i don't know what to do ..? |

| I don't have any answers but maybe you need to take him back to the vet. Did your vet open his mouth and look down inside and make sure there was nothing lodged in there??? It sounds like it could be a splinter from the wooden toy he was playing with since that's when the trouble started. I would make another vet visit asap.

| I would take him back to the vet for sure. It could very well be a splinter. If he's not eating or drinking, I wouldn't wait. I would have him seen right away. Sure hope he feels better soon. Please keep us posted.

| It sounds to me like he dislocated his jaw. That would make it either too painful or impossible to chew and would also affect the way his tongue works. It would also hurt him to lay his head down. He definetly needs to go back to the vet....and I wouldn't think you should have to pay since he missed it the first time. Was the toy a little too big for his mouth where as he would have to open his jaws very wide? Was it a real toy......or maybe something that was treated with a chemical and wasn't meant to be a toy? |

| I would also watch him very closly for vomiting or diahreah! Could you tell by looking at the toy if there was actually any wood missing from it??? Like the last poster said, it could also be a dislocated jaw If you see any other signs of distress I would take him to the emergency vet and wouldn't wait. Poor little fellow...and you too! Keep us posted!!!

| It sounds like a splinter or he injured a tooth to me. I'd take him back to the vet.

| My jaw dislocates occassionally and I know for sure I would not be able to eat if it didn't go back in place first. If the vet can't feel it, an exray would show you if that is what it is. Please let us know what you find out and how he is doing. Also, if you would, please let us know more about that wooden toy. Thanks. |

| he can actually lick normally now. I'm taking him to the vet today..but because i want them to check where they gave him the rabies shot..since I discovered that was the reason why he wasn't able to lay down normally...when I touched his thigh..there was slight swelling.... ...i'm very happy..this morning...he licked my fingers and he gave me lots of kisses....i think it probably was his tounge that accidently bit. I don't think he has something stuck in his troat after all...but I still have to see how he eats and drinks his water today....if I notice something abnormal..i may take him in for an X-ray. --he did chew a piece of wooden "toy"...but we threw it away..I never will give him something like this again. |
