Piper needs a rear-end clean-up

OMG REALLY!!! She is only 7 weeks old! Ugh she is going to the vet on tuesday for her first injection i will ask the vet then? Or do you think i should make an appointment and go sooner? xxx Thank you JDS xxx

To the OP- it's easy enough to trim a little "poop shoot" yourself. Just be prepared for some indignant looks while you are in the process

You could always call & ask. I think you can actually do it yourself if you're willing to learn. I let the groomer do it, b/c I'm a scaredy when it comes to stuff like that. I wouldn't even trim her ears!

BTW, I don't think you need to panic. It's just something you should check on b/c if it is the anal glands & they don't get expressed it can become painful for your baby. With her being so young, it may not be that...the other thing I read about butt scooting is it could mean worms. But it could also just mean she had a dirty butt! If you're sure she doesn't have a dirty butt (poo stuck) then I'd try expressing the anal glands. Does she scoot frequently?

Because she was so young she was still on milk and her poops was very runny and there was a right mess on her behind. I'd wipe her up with a wet wipe and then she would scoot i think because it was wet on her bottom from the wet wipe. If i didnt manage to wipe she would scoot to get off any ''cling ons''. She does not scoot often only when she has had a poop lol i think she might be used to scooting after pooping.

She has just been wormed last week so i dont think it could be worms. I have changed her food and weaned her off the milk (YAY) and her poops are soooooo much better. They are firmer and there is no mess I think she sometimes still scoots tho. I think i will ask my vet about it on tuesday and see what they say, Thanks for pointing that out to me, i thought it was just a funny little thing she did, i didnt know it might be because of something. Thanks xxxx

Sounds like a good plan to ask the vet at her next appt. It could just be due to the wet bottom from being cleaned. Just thought I'd mention it since I thought that's what I had been told.

Me too! Puppy wipes are our best friend around here. My neighbors, fiance', and Mom all think that I'm crazy. lol. I got used to doing this with my Westie, also. The joys of hygienic area cleaning...

Poop should be firm so there should be no reason to need to wipe a dogs butt after a poop. If their poop is too soft it will stick to the fur. I have 3 and take them to be groomed regularly and I have NEVER needed to wipe poop from their butt. This includes when they were all puppies as well. Unless I have on occassion let their grooming go too long I will trim their butt area but still there is no poop stuck or need for baby wipes. Mine climb all over me too and I have never had any type of problems. Maybe you should change foods or treats? Their poop should be formed, firm and hard.

Her poops are fine. I recently added Wellness to her mix and for a few days she had softer than usual poo. She still needs her rear-end cleaned up.

She only really needed to be wiped if we give in and feed her off of the table, and one day we were in the yard 45 minutes and I think that she got overheated. Otherwise, she has normal BMs, so to say. (: I am a little OCD, and she gets wiped all over everyday.

They will do that if they have poop stuck, they will aslo do that if they have worms that makwe their butt itchy. So if they do it a lot, I would have a stool sample checked for worms.

My girls will do this if there is even one microscopic poo particle left behind. When I see the butt scootin boogie, I know to either grab a baby wipe or head to the bathroom to do a butt washing. I have always told my boys (skin kids) it's only poop. There are lots worse things you could get on you and besides it washes of with soap and water and some things don't.
